Sadly I paid the Difference.
Was at the grocery store today and was behind a man (in a filthy uniform from a local Electric/Heating company) in the checkout who only tried to buy eggs, butter and bread. He didn't have enough money in his pocket and he said "Dayum, how can it cost that much?" I gave him a buck to cover it and he nearly refused it, until I told him I found a $5 bill on the street the other day. (A lie I know and I am not a LIAR. But I had to.)

What the hell has this country become when someone with a steady job in a field like HVAC, even working overtime on a Saturday, doesn't have enough in his pocket to cover a few groceries?

Are these the Death Throes?

4. Good for you.
It is terrible, I have seen a lot of head shaking in aisles lately.

I donated a buck today to a couple who only spoke Spanish and could not understand that they were a dollar and change short. It is just what you have to do for people. It will be much more common in the coming months I am afraid.

7. Yeah, more common just like theft will become more common.
My neighborhood is having a sharp increase in car/home forced entries. People are just busting out the fucking windows of trucks to get their guns. (It's the South.)

I hate this fucking country right now.

5. Hey I know that guy!
He does that all the time and then jumps in his 2004 porsche! (j/k)

Seriously, though, nice deed you did there. On our road we've got this guy who pedals his bicycle up and down picking up bottles he can turn in for the deposit money. Every once in a blue moon I'll go out at night and take an empty bottle and stuff a $5 bill into it and leave it along his route somewhere. I'll make sure the bill is sticking out a little just so he doesn't miss it. Heck, in one way the guy is doing a service by cleaning up some of the litter, so WTF, it's nice to drop him a bonus once in a while.

18. Outstanding!
I had never thought of that! You are a good citizen. Something for all of us to keep in mind this winter. My rural neighborhood is now surrounded by gated communities and McMansions. Anyone looking for bottles would have a jackpot here now but they would have to do it at night because anyone out on the road that they don't know ends up in the back of a sheriffs car for a check. This is a great idea.

You're a good woman. If half of this country had the heart that you have, we would not be where we are now. You're a good person, don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise.

14. This is what breaks my heart, too
People working long hours and they still can't frikkin' make it. They can't keep up with the increases in gas, in health care, in services.

Goddamn Bush!

And he's still determined to make the tax cuts for the wealthy permanent, and to repeal the estate tax so that the aristocracy grows even stronger.

15. How very nice!
What a lovely thing you did!

A few months back, I did something similar, except it was an elderly lady paying with food stamps. She didn't have enough, I gave her $2. She was very thankful and said, she would pay me back. I told her to "pay me back" by doing something nice for someone else. When I saw her, all I could think is "I hope someone would do this for my grandma!" A little selfish, but honest.

Being kind to someone takes so little, but is so worth it!

19. the wealthy would like
to be charged even less for this man's services. They would be happy to see that his family is not covered by health insurance if it would lower their bills.
They could care less if his kids need loans for college - they prefer keeping the kids out of college if it means they keep their tax cuts.
Should this man's family face a medical crisis, the wealthy are content to make him spend every last dime on "financial education classes" to make sure his house is seized and his earnings garnisheed, because he is nothing but a scofflaw.

But he better get to their house PRONTO if they have a problem with their heating equipment.

The return of the Gilded Age.
