one less distraction they can hide under

1. It's always postponed
that way there's more distraction value. Bring him out for a day in court when needed, then put him back in the closet to bring out again another day.

That way the story hits the headlines thus knocking something else out of the headlines, but as the trial is postponed there are no new revelations.
