The Illusion of Normality

Never in the 229 years of United States history has this government “of, by and for the people” been in greater peril. Not during the Civil War, not during the Great Depression, and not during the Second World War or the Cold War which followed.

Until today, gross incompetence, abuse of power, corruption, corporatocracy, and federal insolvency could be checked and reversed by balanced and separated governmental powers, and at the ballot box by a citizenry informed and provoked by an alert and independent media. Now all branches of government and the mainstream media are dominated by the wealthy elites in control of a single political party.

Can you believe this? If not, you are in the company of a majority of Americans who might respond to the above jeremiad with “Oh c’mon now, it can’t be as bad as all that! We’ve always had incompetence, corruption, waste, fraud and abuse in the federal government, and stolen elections are as old as the republic. It’s no different now.”

So long as that majority of Americans believes this, the rule of the Busheviks and its successor oligarch regimes will be secure. Thus Bush, Inc. and its obedient mainstream media are desperately endeavoring to nourish and sustain this “illusion of normality.”

The illusion has many facets.

1. I agree with Ernest...
This is a time not seen in our country before, not even during the Civil War. This time the "civil war" is more silent and more deadly.

2. Civil War meets McCarthy meets Hitler...meets Armageddon
It's got components of the Civil War, components of the McCarthy Era, and obviously, Bush isn't Hitler yet but not because he hasn't tried, while our soldiers kill foreign peoples to keep us "safe", how that isn't using war on "some people" the same way Hitler did, I'll never know.

Then there's global warming, peak oil, any number of diseases coming at us, depleted uranium (remember depleted uranium?), mercury levels high enough to make most of us a little dumber along with a host of other heavy metals, pesticides and other chemicals we live with. Now. Not to mention the economy, the housing bubble, heating fuel shortages and half a dozen other things I forgot.

Then, to top it all off, there's the vote we lost. That's a REAL problem, losing the right to vote.

I couldn't agree more, our nation has never been more at risk, and a lot of people are under the illusion that nothing is "really" going to happen. Not to them. Not here.

But the facts, ALL the facts, say otherwise. Nothing points to us being "okay".

Nothing points to us being. Nothing points to us being...at all. Not really.
