High School's radio frequency seized by Christian network

Maynard High School's radio frequency, 91.7 FM, is being seized by a network of Christian broadcasting stations that the Federal Communications Commission has ruled is a better use of the public airwaves.

``People are furious,'' said faculty adviser Joe Magno.

Maynard High's WAVM, which has been broadcasting from the school for 35 years, found itself in this David vs. Goliath battle when it applied to increase its transmitter signal from 10 to 250 watts.

According to Magno, that ``opens the floodgates for any other station to challenge the station's license and take its frequency.''

So WVAM is being hijacked by a Jesusy version of ClearChannel (cue "Jaws" music). Nice. Really nice. Makes you ask yourself, "what would Jesus do?"

1. Funny
I don't ever recall Jesus encouraging a media monopoly.

2. Well one positive, if there is one---
These type of events cause people to take notice of the lack of compassion these "so called" Christians have. Those high school students will have long memories.

3. Isn't this "coveting thy neighbors goods"?
I don't care how fine a legal point this is, but is is stealing, plain and simple.

5. Something similar happened in my area.
Not quite the same, but a Christian channel started up and it bleeds heavily into an oldies station that I enjoyed listening to. Where I live, the reception is limited to NPR, a country music station filled with commercials, and a couple stations geared to people in their twenties.

Now I have nothing to listen to unless I just want to fill my car with sound for the sake of sound. Satellite isn't within my budget for now. Maybe I need a receiver with better fine tuning?
