U.S. Rep. Tom DeLay's chief lawyer says he has no evidence that Travis County District Attorney Ronnie Earle participated in grand jury deliberations, despite having made that allegation in motions to dismiss DeLay's indictments.
So why are they putting on such a big, deceitful show? Here's one idea...

A day after it was disclosed that U.S. Rep. Tom DeLay had discussed trying to avoid a felony indictment, lawyers questioned whether DeLay lawyer Dick DeGuerin had unleashed unwanted publicity - or was playing the system to move his client's trial out of Austin, where jurors could be tainted by all that publicity.

DeLay may want to avoid a trial in Austin, not only because it's one of the more liberal cities in Texas, but also because his leading role in splitting Travis County into three congressional districts in 2003 drew harsh criticism from Democrats.
