"Saturday Night Massacre" October 20, 1973 - What will BUSH do??

32 years ago tomorrow, Nixon fired the Watergate independent prosecuter and forced the resignations of the AG and Deputy AG.

What will Bush do this weekend, almost 32 years to the day of Nixon's tirade, faced with pending indictments in his White House?

2. But Bush's AG is not as scrupulous as Nixon's was

If I remember correctly the AG and Deputy AG resigned because they refused to fire the prosecutor. It was an act of insubordination, yes, but it was also a principled act that put the interests of the country above the interests of an administration.

I have a hard time believing that anyone in the current administration has that kind of moral foundation.

6. AG Gonzales has *no* authority to fire Fitz.

Our man Alberto has recused himself from the case. He has no authority whatsoever with regards to Fitzgerald.

If Chimpster McCokespoon tries to pull anything like this, it will not go very well for him. People would not like it. Even if he's not implicated in the indictments there would be loud impeachment talk very quickly, IMHO.

The independent prosecutor was Archibald Cox. A co-worker reminded me of a popular bumper sticker from that time. "Impeach the Cox Sacker"

Bush going to China, speculation that Agnew, I mean Cheney will be indicted and resign, the scandal heating up like crazy.
