"alarming rise in temperature in the Southern Ocean"
micheal crichton?
i thought the models were only designed to scare us.. yet the reality turns out to be worse.
what gives?!?

owell, a dead ocean (or 7) is No Big Deal. Humans are Smarter than Nature and will win the War against Earth!!11!

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/4356422.stm

The ocean west of the Antarctic Peninsula has warmed by more than a degree since the 1960s - contradicting the results of computer models.

Computer models had suggested that a combination of ice, winds and currents would keep the Antarctic water cool and shield many marine creatures from the effects of climate change.

"Air temperatures on the Antarctic Peninsula have gone up by three degrees in the last 50 years or so and none of the computer models show that either," Professor Peck told the BBC News website.

"So I think you have to accept that the ability of the models to characterise polar regions is relatively poor."

1. Warm ocean water is the ENGINE for all these storms
But global warming?!

I can't believe any rational person doesn't acknowledge global warming and that this is part of it.

5. I read a sci fi story years ago, dont' recall the title, although
I believe the author was David Brin. Huge hurricanes formed in the Pacific & never dissipated. They would hit land, still be big enough to get back out to sea, regain their strength, hit land again.

It was quite an out there concept at the time I read it, but now . . .

2. My personal theory is we are experiencing a polar shift
at the same time as Global Warming is melting our icecaps and there is more here than meets the eye!!!

4. Polar shift? As in magnetic?
No pun intended, but has your compass drifted?

I think "magnetic north" drifts around a bit, and that can be seen on a compass, as would a really big shift occuring. No?
