Colbert Report could really use a straight man
Guests are getting confused and it is hard to take 30 straight minutes of satire without someone being the pole in the middle.

On the daily show, Stewart is the straight man for most of the show, while throwing out the fairly occasional joke.

Eh...

That said, I do really like the show 90% though.

1. i think it's hilarious when colbert introduced stone philips
and then jumps and prances and cheers himself as he walks over to stone, who is waiting in the dark.

brilliant!

i assume he's doing this every time but that's the only interview i've seen so far.

5. Yah, does that every time.
During Stones "Intro" they even had Stones lights turned off so he was in darkenss while the spot followed Colbert. They haven't done THAT with the other guests, but Colbert still charges over there gather all the applause.

2. I thought they started something with the off-camera director
being brow beaten by Colbert, but they never developed it. He needs some "plot device" to break up the show.

I still love em though. But he needs to grow into his new shoes.

6. They could have a straight reporter.
Have a guy doing his best to deliver unbaised news, and have Colbert asking him ridiculous questions.

I bet they could get some real reporters to fill in from time to time. Do special reports, that sort of thing.

8. I like Colbert on the Daily
I believe his schtick is not going to last too long. Its a little tiresome after a few nights (speaking for myself because I know a lot of people love it).

9. i've only seen the one episode but i can see the formula getting old fast
then again, if they're smart, they'll start mixing it up. the key is to get the right mix of both familiar and fresh.

12. Yeah he's funny for five minutes at a clip.
It's a strain to keep the irony up nonstop for a halfhour.

13. if this show is to survive, he's got to have someone to take the
wattage down a notch. he's way to amped to do a whole show. the level stays too high for too long. it's like trying to watch a jim carrey movie. you can feel him going over the top for so long and then it's starts to stress you out. so far, i've not been too impressed. like him better on TDS. maybe because he was on for short segments.

14. Good interview w/ Lou Dobbs
That was fucking hilarious. Colbert suggested outsourcing all the jobs so the illegal immigrants wouldn't come here. Or just turn part of America into a 3rd world zone and export jobs there.

15. There was brief mention of (fictional) liberal radio host
Russ Lieber.

Maybe more of him would provide some balance.

16. I think it's good, but I think it could use a Brit Hume-style panel
Maybe once a show or at least a few times a week, perhaps with the Daily Show correspondents serving as straight men (or woman in the case of Samantha Bee) while Colbert just blasts away at them.

That said, for a new show I think it's been very good. A few segments have fallen flat, but the word has pretty consistently been funny, a number of the interviews have been good and I liked some of the other segments - the district profile with the interview of Cong. Jack Kingston (R-Ga) was hilarious.

20. It's Perfect For It's FIRST WEEK & A HALF. His Interviews Are Outstanding
Edited on Wed Oct-26-05 09:59 PM by cryingshame
all his bits are funny AND intelligent satire.

It's way funnier then the Daily Show that is funny about a third of the time and has shitty, stupid correspondants who basically just mock people.

Out of any given Week, the Daily Show has maybe 30 minutes total of actually funny material and that was often supplied by Colbert.
