Freepers: putting 2,000 deaths into (mis)perspective
You gotta hand it to them, they've determined that 2,000 really isn't such a big deal since lots more people die in other ways. Here are some of the comments from the "Death Tolls, Here's a Perspective!" thread:

Abortions:
* 29,247,142 legal abortions were performed in the United States, 1970-95. (Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report, Vol. 47 No. SS-2) * Estimated abortions worldwide: 527M to 836M (1920-2000) <http://www.johnstonsarchive.net/policy/abortion/wrjp333sd.html>

16,000+ were murdered in the U.S. last year (or the year before). Compared to 2,000 killed in Iraq during the past 2-1/2 years.

It does put things into perspective.

Here's the annual highway death toll last reported, year 2000:

Persons Killed 41,717 41,821 +0.2%

Unfortunatley, some of our troops make it safely back from Iraq only to die on the nations highways.

--------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm sure our troops can rest better tonight knowing that they could have died here on the highway.

1. "Supporting the troops" as usual, I see.

And by "supporting the troops" I mean, "insulting them".

Those people have a loyalty to the Republican Party and to GW Bush, and that is all. They don't give half a shit about anything else; not the Constitution, not their neighbors, and no- not the "troops".

Real traitors.

2. If it makes those pathetic fools feel better about themselves

them 'em have it. I'll bet it would be a little different if they lost a son or something. However, they don't let people into the military with congenital things like club feet and so on, so I guess it isn't a issue with them.

3. They should send this info out
in a letter to the families of the dead. I'm sure they will feel much better about their loss. (heartless mofos, aren't they?)

4. So by that rationale, 9/11 was no big deal compared to the murder rate.
Idiots.
