florida vs Gulf South hurricane disaster preparedness.

Can someone please correct me if I am wrong?

Weren't the Republicans saying how Florida is always prepared to handle hurricane relief? How, the local government in the Gulf South let the people down. Now, what is the excuse for Florida? How come there are stories circulating that they were not prepared? Or, did I just hear wrong? Last time I checked Jeb Bush was the governor of florida, was all of this his fault? Please help me understand.

1. Well, Wilma was a weird storm

It appears that the State put all their resources into the west coast (Keys up to Ft. Myers). Normally a storm like that is gonna make landfall and weaken by the time it hits the other side of the state. But Wilma was moving so fast that it didn't weaken at all going over the Everglades. That's why you had power back up in Naples in 2 days, but barely any crews at all working in Ft. Lauderdale. But, with all that said, the state did a better job with the 4 storms last year than it did this year.

He said he was responsible. So, several states have proven that it is not possible or likely that they can handle these kind of things.

This should stregnthen the need for agencys like FEMA. It's like insurence. It's stupid to expect each state to have all the supplies just sitting around.

3. Let me offer a jaundiced perspective

from South Mississippi. Folks in Louisiana were told they suffered because of their state and local officials incompetence. They also heard that Florida would do better because the governor was a republican and he worked well with the federal government. Then, lo and behold here comes a hurricane and bush's walk did not equal his talk. Adding insult to injury, Wilma was not as powerful or destructive as Katrina and the geography in Florida is more conducive to surviving Hurricanes then a large part of New Orleans. AND, jeb bush does not have to deal with his brother's incompetent lacky michael brown, who should be charged with negligent homicide for what he did after katrina.
