Target was Brewster/Jennings not just Plame
I have to consider that Brewster/Jennings was the real target, not just Valerie Plame....what a convienient conincidence that B/J was brought down when Plame was exposed...how convenient that one more organization is not around to provide information on WMD, or lack there of....

2. I wonder how hard or easy it is for the CIA to get a cover operation like
BJ up and running - is it a big deal to get one going, or does the CIA set up, like, 3 a day? Also, do you know how many agents used it as cover, or is that one of those things we'll just never know?
And hey - I just realized, not only were the agents CURRENTLY (in July '03) using BJ as cover compromised, but any agent who was associated with it at ANY TIME (ie, had it on their "cover resume")were put in jeopardy, right?

3. Exactly! the Whole B/J
group was exposed, and anyone doing business with them, exposed as well.

This needs to be made clear as the pukes will say "everyone knew she was a spy" (not true)....this is just a technicality (when is the truth a technicality?)...and it only harmed one CIA agent....(it closed B/J...not just any CIA front but their most productive in terms of supporting WMD info gathering....)

15. How can it not be clear?
When pundits or punks from the right talk about no harm being done, I wonder if they really have not considered the potential implications of the outing beyond Plame or if it doesn't seem important.

And that the operation was about WMD and they still aren't disturbed by it is just mind boggling.

I understand people can be partisan, peoples views can differ...but it is something so far beyond that which grew so obvious during last 04 campaign. I have never seen such a gulf.

I swear, life has become like some bizzaro world, outside of my ability to comprehend.

chaos--with which to steal superduper amounts of money from the American people (with lots of collateral damage that none of them cares about), and all of them superduper liars covering their superduper asses.

That's who we have running our country--and, in addition, they got some superduper Bushite electronic voting companies set up with "TRADE SECRET," PROPRIETARY programming in their doohicky machines, to tell some superduper lies about the election results, and the superduper news monopolies to confirm those lies with superduper doctoring of their own exit polls.

Thus, bizarro world, where everything is mind-boggling, because that's what it's meant to be. Lies so big you can't see around them.

5. The company has not been mentioned on the news so far, to my knowledge.
I've broken down and watched some television coverage, and the most I've heard about damage from the leak was Andrea Mitchell's unchallenged assertion to Tweety that "I'm hearing" that it wasn't extensive. I would have loved to hear a real journalist ask her who told her that and what the details are.

6. Yeah, the implications are (and I'm gonna spell this correctly) HUGE
here. Unimaginable damage may have occured, with the CIA unable to "tell all" without being further compromised. I have noticed very little talk of Brewster Jennings, even on DU - but it really makes the case for "TREASON" in a big, big way.

11. a CIA front company
that Valerie Plame Wilson (and other agents, apparently) used as cover, and that monitored WMD transactions.

Note to those with more knowledge than me...please correct if I am wrong!

21. There were in fact two outings...
July 14, 2003: Novak outed Valerie Plame.

July 22, 2003: Novak outed the entire CIA WMD monitoring and non-proliferation group, 20 years in the making, the Brewster-Jennings front company, disabling all projects and putting all covert agents/contacts around the world at risk of getting killed.

(If any of them did get killed, it's a hanging offense.)

It's interesting--in fact intriguing--what happened in between.

July 18, 2003: David Kelly found dead, under highly suspicious circumstances; his office and computers searched. (Brits chief WMD expert who had been whistleblowing anonymously to the BBC, about the "sexed up" Iraq intel; was mysteriously outed to his bosses, interrogated at a "safe house," then sent home without protection.)

Funny how WMD experts started getting outed, put in danger and turning up dead, at the very moment when it was becoming clear that those darned 'ol WMDs they were huntin' and huntin' for were nowhere to be found (what happened to 'em? Scooter put 'em under the rug? Dang!).

10. Yes, we have a winner
This is not a new theory, but one that bears repeating until the naysayers finally catch on.

Revenge is the cover story, not the motive. The motive was disabling Brewster/Jennings.

16. That makes far more sense.
Granted this is from the Washington Post (Oct. 2003) but would anyone know if Brewster-Jennings *was* already defunct?

"After the name of the company was broadcast yesterday, administration officials confirmed that it was a CIA front. They said the obscure and possibly defunct firm was listed as Plame's employer on her W-2 tax forms in 1999 when she was working undercover for the CIA."

20. I don't know
but I never took reports that it was possibly defunct very seriously at the time...it seemed like more of the same blather designed to obfuscate the issue.

It's important to remember that even if Brewster Jennings was defunct at the time of Novak's article, the people involved would still be privy to facts that debunked the Administration's pre-war bs. If said people were busy worrying about being outed as spies, they have less time to contradict the Administration.

12. This is pure speculation on my part--
What if--Cheney had info on BJ obtained from either British intelligence, State dept intelligence (mentioned in indictment) or Rummy's secret group?

What if--they found the Wilson connection to Plame before the trip?

What if--they suggested Wilson to Tenet?

What if--they "allowed" Wilson to find out about the forgery?

What else did BJ know? Maybe something more powerful than the document forgery.

17. Read this: If this isn't treason I have no idea what is
quote.....
Russians with access to nuclear materials sold same to the crime figures, who, in turn, retailed them to the A.Q. Khan network in Pakistan and other WMD smuggling operations. To remove these materials from circulation, Brewster Jennings, in a CIA Directorate of Operations Counter Proliferation Division operation, bought them at this "nuclear used car market," as one CIA source put it. In the late 1990s, according to Madsen, black-market high-grade plutonium was being sold in buckets from warehouses.

Thus did the Russian crime figures, Rich, and Libby find themselves pitted against Brewster Jennings. Then a well-known neocon affiliated with a Washington think tank received classified information about Brewster Jennings from someone within the Department of Defense and passed it on to forces within Israel, who relayed it to the Russian crime figures.

18. Considering that Novak wrote a second article
To disclose B/J, I'll go out on a limb and say that the first article didn't achieve its objective. Ok, a big fat heavy live oak limb :P

The real question is to what purpose was B/J the target?

A number of theories have been proposed:

1. To provide cover to plant WMD in Iraq. If there was a plot to plant WMD, B/J would be in a position to uncover/foil it.

2. To cover or enable WMD related sales of equipment.

3. It was done to cover up Khan's Pakistani enterprises.

The thing that is clear is that whoever wanted to dismantle B/J had a motive. Cover companies take decades to establish.

 :tinfoilhat:

Was the Cheney-Rummy cabal screwed by Khan after they dismantled B/J? Did Khan tell them he would plant WMD in Iraq and then renege?
