Stop Talking about "2008 Presidency" !!!!!!
Jesus. Democrats need House or Senate for Subpoena power. If Dems get subpoena power Democrats can run any person in the world and the Dem candidate would win...

But this one has me stumped and it looks like something I SHOULD understand, hence the embarassment.

I under the human side of the political schtick but not so much the... well, you know, nuts and bolts and stuff of it.

27. TG:
What the OP means is that the majority party in either the senate or the house has subpoena power: thus they can hold hearings and force people by law to testify at those hearings.

He/she means that if we recapture the house or senate in 06 we can investigate the Bush admin, hold hearings, supboena whom we want, and the resulting devastation for the republican party will help elect a Dem Prez in 08.

Hope that helps.

6. True. And if they don't win in 2006, maybe no 2008 election.
Bush has already floated the trial bubble of doing away with the Posse Comitatus act, which bars making federal troops a domestic police force under the president's control. He talked about getting the power so he could deal with "bird flu." Yeah, right.

10. STOP TELLING ME WHAT TO TALK ABOUT 11111111

I agree 06 is more important than 08.

HOWEVER, it'd be dangerous for Dems to ignore the reality that for many, many voters style wins out over substance. The television elects the candidate. Too many voters have been American Idol-ized and celebrity beaten to the point where they honestly do think they're doing the right thing by "voting for the 'man' - not the party."

Someone, somewhere within the Dem party has to keep an eye toward 08. If not, John McCain will be our next preznit.

15. I agree. My solution.
Edited on Wed Nov-09-05 07:22 PM by longship
I'm no longer going to comment on any threads, vote in any polls, or contribute anything to threads on the 2008 election. I am going to continue to ignore them until after the 2006 election.

As far as I'm concerned threads about 2008 do not exist.

On edit: Another type of thread that does not exist for me is the "So-and-so did something good, therefore so-and-so for President" threads. They are all on my ignore list, too.

I know that some of this is fun, and I enjoy speculating, too. But there are so many threads on this stuff that I've decided to not feed them with commentary. Things will sort itself out in due time. When the 2008 campaign season begins there will be plenty of time and opportunity for commentary. Then, I'll have plenty of fun.

21. And that is the answer in a Democratic community.....
Edited on Wed Nov-09-05 07:30 PM by Rowdyboy
You do what you like. So does everyone else. If some people want to talk about a subject you find stupid, you ignore them. It works much better than trying to tell other people what they should be talking about.

Maybe its just me, but when people get a little bossy and start telling me not to do something, I'm all the more likely to do it, just for spite. At 51, I'm a little too old to be taking directions from a stranger on an internet message board (referring to OP, not to you, Longship)

22. Who said it was stupid?
Stupid? Please do not put words in my mouth. What's stupid is to not read a person's entire post and then post a lame response based on lame assumptions. Thank you.

I never said or implied that 2008 speculation was stupid.

I also said that many people find it fun to discuss such things. I do sometimes, too. But I think 2008 speculation is very premature. That's why I'm no longer going to comment on them. Other people like it, so I imagine the threads will continue. That's okay with me, too.
