2. I have a suspicion this has all been about Israel

I'll get hammered for that, I guess.

Some major resolution/bill contains wording, added by Lyndsey Graham, that specifies that Israel's "security" is a prime justification for bush's attack on Iraq. I really began hearing/reading about an Israeli influence since 9*11, but that's when I really started paying attention - I don't know how long it might have been going on, if its going on, whatever it is.

I don't understand why Israel is a "special" consideration, as in a nation that mattered more, somehow, than say Iraq or Iran or Syria or the Palestinian people, or any other nation. Israel is but one nation amongst many.

Yet we, the "official" US, all but worships Israel.

Why?

3. Inconsistency on Third Reich allusions.

You can compare Iran to Germany during the Third Reich with the resultant 6 million Jews exterminated (note: don't forget the other 6 million NON-Jews also exterminated), but you shouldn't compare Bush to Hitler. And this administration is starting to do the allusion to Chamberlain's appeasement to Hitler now with regard to Iran.

5. I can't figure out why official US loves Israel so...

but Saddam Hussein really didn't give a shit about them. At least, not the kind of a shit that could be turned into action against Israel.

Saddam was in it for one thing only: Saddam. Specifically, the survival of Saddam. He was such a son-of-a-bitch that he had to sleep in a different bed every night because he was (rightly) afraid one of his own countrymen would kill him. He had body doubles because he was afraid one of his own countrymen would kill him.

He didn't have the kind of army needed to go fuck up Israel, and Israel has the kind of army needed to go fuck up Iraq. (And it's an army with experience in doing just that--Saddam USED to have a nuclear reactor, but the Israeli Air Force blew it up. Also consider: during Desert Storm, George the Smarter had to bribe the Israelis with Patriot launchers and missiles to keep them from entering the fray, which WOULD have brought on Armageddon. George the Stupid would have let them in.)

Israel is the single largest recipient of American foreign aid, and personally I don't think they're worth it.

(Actually, I think I know EXACTLY why the US loves Israel so: Jerusalem is within its borders. The fundies think that if Jesus' birthplace were to fall into the hands of the Muslims, their religion would die and they'd just drift off into limbo or something after they passed on.)

7. Some answers

The Mideast has the oil, and Israel is a friend...so we arm them to the teeth to keep a lid on things, and to provide a jump-off point if need be.

A lot of this goes back to the Cold War; our most significant committments to Israel began when the USSR started dealing with Egypt and Iran.

Oh, and this'll get me a shot in the teeth, but it's true: No Democratic politician with dreams of higher office can afford to piss off the Israeli lobby so long as the state of New York has all those Electoral College votes.
