Republicans Are Scared To Death Of Mark Warner
From Michael Barone. Idiot rightwing savant.

The drumbeat is starting. They're already trying to portray Warner as disingenuous. The usual Republican line. Every Democrat is either a phony or a crazed ultra liberal.

Something tells me, people won't buy it about Warner.

<snip>
The Virginia result also produces a loser and a winner in Democratic presidential politics. The loser is Hillary Rodham Clinton. That's because the winner is Mark Warner, who evidently has decided not to run against Sen. George Allen next year but has instead embarked on a candidate for president. There is something faux about Warner: He portrays himself as an entrepreneur who just happened to enter politics. The fact is that he is a guy who has been interested and involved in politics all his life, who won a lottery to get a cellphone license and then made a huge fortune off it, and then used the money he earned to run against Sen. John Warner in 1996 and to get himself elected governor of Virginia in 2001. (Not entirely a faux entrepreneur, I would concede: If I had won that lottery, I would probably have frittered away the business, whereas Warner had the competence to make it successful.) Warner evidently wants to run as the moderate candidate against Hillary Rodham Clinton, as a candidate who has shown that he can win in a state that voted for George W. Bush (and indeed every Republican presidential candidate starting with 1968). He won in 2001 and, running on his coattails, Tim Kaine won in 2005. Kaine's victory gives him a pretty strong argument against Clinton—and for that matter against the Republican nominee (could it be Allen?) in 2008. This was a big win for Mark Warner.

1. After he called the repugs on their dirty campaigning last night, I would
think they should be afraid! He impressed me!

3. Didn't he just rock. That's how you do it, rail against injustice.
He said "We're going to fight for every vote..." (and they are right now for the A.G. race) and told the Republicans and media to shut up and stop calling it a Republican win. This is what a leader does.

He took no prisoners election night.

He introduced Kaine but before doing so, gave a laudatory introduction to former Gov. Doug Wilder, someone with whom he's had a beef. You would not have known it, Wilder was honored. He introduced Kaine and did a fine job at that.

I could tell him exactly how to win...dump any national affiliations with anything, move to the left, and work on the populist appeal.

We'll see

5. Yep! He made me proud to be a Democrat! I thought to myself, this is
how all our Leaders should behave! Fight fire with fire! Well we all could tell them how to win.............. and we will see! But last night was a good start! Governor Elect Corzine ripped the repubs for dirty campaigning also! :woohoo:

7. he'll be fine
and i'm glad he'll pick up steam against hillary.

i'd say he's more of a "fight fire with a fire extinguisher" kind of guy, since sincere pragmatism has been his governing trademark.

9. Heard him speak a few months back
at the J-J Dinner here in WV. He was VERY impressive, even on a night that was the sole province of Bob Byrd.

He talked solid left ideas, and called them "centrist."

Chatting with him before hand, he said that conceding the South was a fatal flaw in Kerry's campaign.

Warner can win.

21. Sounds good
I think you can tell a lot about a person about how they treat people on the other side. I still remember in either 1992 or 1996 when Clinton/Gore were running watching Gore's speech and he was saying nice things about Bob Dole and his career but disagreed with his policies. That's the thing I love about democrats is they don't do mud slinging like the republicans. That's just a turnoff and nasty.

2. Warner would eat Allen for lunch
Which is great, since Allen is the frontrunner amoung the Republicans.

4. I don't think that article is bad at all.
In fact, it seems pretty truthful, for the most part.

It just says Warner was a successful businessman with a lifelong interest in politics who balanced Virginia's budget and gives Hillary pause.

17. Well, it's the "faux" nonsense
They're trying to already subliminally plant that he's a phony.

Just like they did with Clinton.

Just like they did with Gore.

Just like they did with Kerry.

They only have one playbook and they all stick to it every cycle.

6. So did BillClinton, for exactly the same reason. Both are very electable.
"new southerners" with a lot of smarts and a really nice, friendly manner. Bill is more of ham-bone showman than Mark, but the latter's modesty and straightforward approach is refreshing.

10. Warner's the Man
He's got a slow kinda cornfed charisma about him. The more you listen to him the more you like him. He is about sensable effective govenment with a heart. His most radical idea is that if you are honest with people they will listen to you.

12. He'd have a much better chance of winning the WH in 08 than Hillary
Please no Hillary.

The last three elected dem presidents were Southerners, and two were Southern governers.

14. DU mentioned in this old WAPO article on Warner!
Web surfers at a site called the Democratic Underground think Virginia Gov. Mark R. Warner should be their party's next presidential candidate. So does a guy named Steve, who has started a "Warner in 2008" Internet journal. And among political pundits and the soul-searching leadership of the Democratic Party, Warner's name keeps popping up.

20. That's so lame
So what, he's been into politics his whole life. Whoopie! He should know how to run a campaign than. And all you have to do is look at his record as governor and how the state did under his leadership. And I'm into learning more about Warner and hearing him speak on issues. Didn't he recently appear on CSPAN? I'll have to go and see if he's on the site.
