CNN.com: Police: Runaway held as sex slave (Phoenix, AZ)
Police: Runaway held as sex slave

PHOENIX, Arizona (AP) -- A couple held a runaway teen captive in a hollow bed frame for weeks and forced her to have sex for money with people they found on the Internet, police said.

The 15-year-old girl managed to call family members for help while 18-year-old Matthew Gray and 19-year-old Janelle Butler were sleeping Monday night, authorities said. The two were arrested Tuesday.

The girl ran away from her El Mirage home in September and met the couple through a friend about three hours after she disappeared, police Sgt. Andy Hill said. They took her to a park, bound her and had her gang raped for hours, police said.

At a west Phoenix apartment, they imprisoned her in a dog kennel for about a week and threatened her with a gun, Hill said. They sold her for sex dozens of times on the Internet, he said, and forced her to hide in a hollowed-out bed frame covered with plywood..

This is not the story I wanted to run across right before I went to bed. How many sick fucks was this poor girl prostituted to without anyone's guilty conscience the day... or even the week after giving an anonymous call to the police to get her out of there! two months! this makes me so sick. they were advertising her on the internet for god's sake!

8. I'll take Tucson over Phoenix any day.
We live in Yuma and we'll drive 3-3.5 hours to Tucson before we'lll drive the 2.75 hours to Phoenix.

But agreed, this story has nothing to do with Phoenix v. Tucson it is just mind-numbing.

18. Oh man, not me!
My four years at Arizona State University were GRAND. I love Phoenix.

What we need to do is teach our teen girls the confidence that comes with the skill of SELF-DEFENSE! Every young person, should know these skills which are not all aggressive. For example, children are taught to wrap their arms around a bicycle and scream FIRE, so that the perpetrator can NOT carry them to their vehicle.

Every case of this nature is tragic but it is also complex. I've found out through a little research that MANY teenage boys do not report sexual abuse out of shame.

So it's not just young teen girls who get sexually assaulted ... The PERVERSITY of these perpetrators is shameful but must be addressed.

Because I pride myself in my liberal views, I truly hate to "throw in the towel" but the FACT IS that the recidivism rate on sexual predators is HIGH, I fully support TRACKING their movements for the rest of their lives. "The Cure" is seemingly non-existent for these sick and perverse criminals and ex-cons.

41. I agree with self defense
You should definietly at least know some ways to learn what to do if you're ever in trouble. Doesn't the guy who does "Crime Stoppers" or something like that have a tape out of what to do? I think he had a child kidnapped or something like that and never got them back so now he teaches self-defense.

Not sure which show (I don't watch enough tv to memorize the names, but it was one of these NYPD type things).

I remember thinking how unlikely it was. Sadly, not unlikely enough. All those teens on milk cartoons, and who disappear while jogging...

14. When I first got the internet I checked out everything ...
... I could find on it, including the free porn. I'd once seen a fun, harmless french porn movie, and was expecting to find more stuff like that. But I was sickened to see how much porn involved humiliating the women concerned. And the most humiliating thing is that these girls have to smile and say, "I'm a slut, I deserve this," to paraphrase a little.

From asking around, it seems a lot of men are so used to this that they don't even see how badly these women are being treated, and think they are really enjoying it. I'm not disputing that some girls might really choose and enjoy porn as a career, I'm talking about the bulk of women involved, the ones the porn industry uses.

However there is no point in blaming men for it, it's not a question of who has the penis, it's all about who has the power. Although I'm a women who could never treat other people in that way, I can't deny that there are women who would, if they were brought up to with the power, traditions and role models that encouraged such behaviour. There are also plenty of men who are caring and empathic who are sickened when they see such things.

One thought, perhaps if men didn't feel so disempowered and humiliated by society they would not want to treat women in this way.

Oh for a society in which everyone is brought up and taught with respect, and then treated with respect by their governments and employers ...

42. And how do you know they aren't acting?
Acting does come along with the job. I've seen a few interviews on HBO with porn stars who love the industry and have claimed they were never pressured to do anything they didn't want to do and they're always in control. They get to make the deals and do things how they like if they are a really high paying girl and everything (like that Jenna what's her name girl). I do think that sometimes in porn such as what was described in a previous post about all the guys and the one girl can be seen by other younger guys as a turn-on and think they have the right to treat women that way. The difference more than likely is the woman in the video's agreed to it and is getting paid whereas in reality she didn't and isn't getting paid.

16. I am rather sick of...
...men being the cause of every socially ill thing that has ever happened in the world. As a man I find it insulting to be blamed for every tiny immoral thing that has ever happened. Yes, men are capable of being completely evil people. So are women. Evil doesn't care about gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, political philosophies, or any other creed or stamp you can place on it. Evil is evil no matter who performs it.

In case it has escaped anyone this little act here, wasn't preformed by some lone man. It was preformed by him and a female accomplice - I am assuming his girlfriend. Ironically enough, instead of being treated as an equal accomplice in the crime it seems she is getting off easier. ("Gray (the guy) was booked on hundreds of counts, including sexual assault, kidnapping and child prostitution. Butler (the woman) was booked on kidnapping, child prostitution and other charges.")

I am rather sick and tired of society as a whole believing women are innocent and fragile people. They are strong, intelligent, and capable. They aren't any less better or worse than men, and any evil thing that a man can do a woman can also do to equal effect. There is only one thing a woman can do that men can't do (at least not yet) and that is become pregnant.

I sign up for full equality, and I personally resent as a male having all of societies problems pushed onto me. I also resent the fact that it seems the majority of the people who take such positions seem to think women are like glass - fragile and breakable. I hold women to the same standards as I hold any man, and I judge every person on the basis of who they are and what they have done. *THAT* is what equality looks like.

(P.S. Sorry about the little rant in this sad and serious thread. I hope the victim will receive the psychological help she will desperately need and both the... well... there is no word to describe them... both of the criminals are made to pay severely as well as anyone else who participated in or knew about this act. Human Sex Slavery is a real and serious problem in the United States and around the world, and it is something that has been largely swept under the rug.)

If you really look at it, women are responsible for a lot of things in the world. Evil has no real out appearance. You could be anything, and be an evil bastard.

44. Robert Jensen
is a hack who mis characterizes the industry. Do those videos exist? Yes. But if we categorize "mainstream" as the BIGGEST and MOST successful companies - that sell the most videos, Blow bang doesn't even come close to making the cut.

They other thing I might point out is that I can write just a damning of description of any episode of The Simpsons. "Homer then puts his hands around the young boy's throat and we see him grimace and convulse in pain".

But let's parse the description, shall we?

In one of these scenes, a young woman dressed as a cheerleader is surrounded by six men. For about seven minutes, “Dynamite” (the name she gives on tape) methodically moves from man to man while they offer insults that start with “you little cheerleading s___” and get uglier from there.

Wow, shall we ban all TV shows where anyone is called a name too? Can we ban posters who advocate castration and violence against men too?

For another minute and a half, she sits upside down on a couch, her head hanging over the edge, while men thrust into her mouth, causing her to gag.

This is a subjective observation that does not tell you much about the scene, except that Jensen doesn't like it. Is she smiling? Was it a momentary thing? Most likely.

She strikes the pose of the bad girl to the end. “You like coming on my pretty little face, don’t you,” she says, as they ejaculate on her face and in her mouth for the final two minutes of the scene.

This is gonzo porn and is NOT scripted. What you see is what you get. Dynamite said that of her own free will - and off the cuff. How terrible of her to exploit HERSELF like that.

Five men have finished. The sixth steps up. As she waits for him to ejaculate onto her face, now covered with semen, she closes her eyes tightly and grimaces. ***For a moment, her face changes; it is difficult to read her emotions, but it appears she may cry.

Nice biased and subjective observation on the part of Jensen here - he even admits he doesn't know what is going on, probably because the minute before she was smiling, and by his account is smiling a minute later. And the grimace? Porn stars at one time or another (accidentally) get a shot in the eye. It is not pleseant, but neigher is a burn from a pizza oven, which everyone who has ever cooked pizza for a living has received.

After the last man, number six, ejaculates, she regains her composure and smiles.**** Then the narrator off camera hands her the pom-pom she had been holding at the beginning of the tape and says, “Here’s your little cum mop, sweetheart -- mop up.” She buries her face in the pom-pom. The screen fades, and she is gone.

Oh my god, more "bad" language. What else in our society would you like to ban based on words? The woman is smiling at the end of the scene. Even Jensen admits it.

off of the corruption that runs rampant throughout Our Executive Branch.

Perfect for media whores and those who salivate for the cruel and sexy type criminal actions.

More more more HYPE! No Delivery.

Suffice to say that I am less than enticed to follow this FAMILY'S cruel fate ... horrific "small circle" of LOCAL AREA tragedy. Let me guess? = 1) She's WHITE; 2) The family's UPPER-MIDDLE CLASS; and 3) the assaulted teen is "drop dead gorgeous"? Oh yeah, this juicy sex angle that media vultures like Nancy Grace, Rita Cosby, etc. can play up for weeks?

How about we leave this one alone so this poor teen will have a fighting chance to "emotionally" get the proper mental health care without the BLINDING MEDIA BLARE? ... just perhaps ... perhaps, that is = this teen would then have a true opportunity to make the long road toward a successful recovery.

I agree only in part that I do not think this should overshadow the corruption and evil taking place within the Bush Administration and all throughout Washington. However, I do believe that there needs to be a VERY BRIGHT LIGHT shined on the Human Sex Trade going on throughout the world and finding a home here in the United States. It is horrid and it is more prevalent than anyone really thinks.

The "blood sucking" sensationalist media, are wholly lacking in morality if they don't leave this grieving family ALONE!

Please don't do the typical "Jerry Springer" on individual family tragedies? It's IMO morally depraved and well, just plain SICKO! :puke:

29. Whether you can vote, fight, drive, or have kids is irrelevant to
your level of judgement. The extreme nature of this crime suggests that they had some sort of moral disconnect, they lived lives outside the influence of others, they genuinely had no concept of the effect of their actions on others - sociopathy or psychopathy. This crime didn't just spring out of thin air. It had to be nurtured and prepared by their backgrounds, their families.
