How effective was Kerry's speech? it turned my repub dad around!
So tonight I played for him the first 11 minutes of the kerry's speech and after it, my dad admitted that Kerry made some very strong points. He then got pretty somber as i told him all the cases that showed that life in Iraq now is no different than when saddam was in power.
Now my dad is a pretty hard core repub, listens to Rush and Hannity, watches Fox, and spits out all the fun repub talking points. but i've been chipping away at his armor for a while now, ever since he finally saw F9/11 a couple months ago. But now i finally think Kerry's speech was the straw that broke the camel's back. he seemed genuinelly interested in hearing the last few minutes (we had technical issues) and I honestly beleive he's no longer in Bush's camp, especially after i listed all the other repub defections.

things they are a changing! :D

I think though that we're going to have it easy converting the rest, they finally seem to be coming around, like a light switch was turned on or something.

12. i'm trying
it certianly involved some intense shouting matches, but like i said before, it's gonna be easier now with all these defections and all this info coming into the MSM. Though that certianly doesn't mean i'm not going to continue to push as hard as hell these next few years to turn as many as I can around.

9. How encouraging for your
father to come around after all this time of "chipping away at him".

Anyone who is in possession of their wits even after being a republican all these years has to see what's happening especially when they have someone who cares enough to help them see the truth.

16. he's said as much
he's said how he's noticed how passionate i get when talking about how the christian right is hurting this country, he knows it's important to me, and i think that helped alot. he's a very good person, he was just led to beleive false things by the repub media.

10. I've become the 'media" for my family, too...
...congratulations on a good job. I've always known most of my family would have a different opinion if they just had information...so I've been providing it. I'm hoping for a similar result. Have you shown your family John Kerry's Georgetown speech (C-Span, October 26, 2005 on "The Path Forward in Iraq")? I think it's even better than the speech on Monday...and the Q & A session is WONDERFUL!

11. Nice job!
If everyone of us could change just one Republican vote into a Democratic vote in '08 (and '06) our candidate, no matter who it turns out to be, would win by a landslide!

My Dad and I just wind up screaming at each other. It's been that way ever since I told him Nixon was lying and he was going to wind up getting impeached (I was 13 at the time...).

Also, I think that Kerry was really appealing to a very high level of patriotism and citizenship when he gave that speech yesterday, and I am very proud of any Republican who can admit that.

32. Now if only we culd get the MSM to play Kerry, Reid and others' speeches
even tidbits of them, rather than having the talking heads TELL US what they were saying. That would go a long ways towards dispelling the myth that dems have no good ideas to contribute.

maybe this would be a good DU campaign for all of us to do?
