The Cheney speech is a gold mine!
Edited on Wed Nov-16-05 07:22 PM by DancingBear
"We're not going to let them re-write history"

Talking about "opportunistic politicians' with "selective memories' who are harming our troops.

Threatening to "continue to throw their own words back at them."

This is beautiful - it is now an absofrigginlutely gloves are off war.

Dems, the ball is right in front of you. If you pick it up and aim you can knock their fucking heads off.

Batter up...

If I could borrow a phrase from his wife: "This is not a good man."

23. It's a desperate move.
Having Dick out front is a reaction to the bad news, including things like Matthews playing clips showing Cheney lying night after night. In conflict, one should never "react" .... one should "respond." This is a close second to having Bush land on the air craft carrier again, say tomorrow, to prance around with a "mission accomplished" banner.

53. I think it helps every Dem that he mentioned in that speech
The mere fact that they are responding and naming names raises the importance of those named. It's gonna backfire on the GOP--but in fairness, it's all they've got to work with. They're losing the media slowly but surely, and the Dems are not going to back down.

About 70% of the public believes he was involved in the Plame scandal, and about 55% believe that Bush misled the public on WMDs as the reason to invade Iraq.

Now, look at Dick Cheney. Listen to him talk. Is there any single other human being on the planet earth that democrats should prefer speak now for the admministration?

I just can't believe all the HUGE mistakes they've been making, beyond POLICY mistakes, I mean. They were supposed to be such good "politicians" and now every move they make is not only a bad one, but a really, obviously, predictably bad one. I don't get it.

I know some of here bore others with the Watergate parallels, but like Tricky and the boys the Bush boys are now firmly entrenched in the bunker, and up to their asses in shit. Predictably, they send out the Chief Shithead to make a "who you gonna believe, me or your lyin' eyes" speech while covered in feces.

It truly is deja-vu all over again.

I guess they still think the media will help them "get their minds right" and they have been largely correct about this until very recently.

Hmm, the way YOU tried to re-write history when Gloria Borgia reiterated a DIRECT QUOTE of yours from the week prior (re it being 'confirmed' that Al Qeada member had met with Hussein operative pre-9/11) and you said, "That never happened. I never said any such thing."

Problem being that The Daily Show (amongst others) later ran the two interviews back-to-back -- showing the world that you had INDEED said exactly what Borgia claimed you had said.

Just wonderin', Dickie Boy, just wonderin' .....

12. last night on Olbermann.........
...Keith interviewed David Gregory and Howard Fineman about Bush's latest 'blame the Democrats' strategy. Gregory he said he couldn't imagine this could turn out well for Bush because that will lead back to the fact that no WMDs were found in Iraq which will, once again, be bad for Bush. It doesn't matter if someone else thought the same thing. It's still going to lead back to the incompetence of this administration.

52. Don't bet on it... We need to nail this coffin shut right now...
They'll be trying to use these talking points for the next 50 years. We need a website, a speaker, a declaration or something that clearly sets the blame where it belongs.

For instance: who can this administration hold up, from within it's ranks, from congress, from the intelligence community who said, "Wait a minute..." Who was the voice for a more rigorous testing of the intelligence? I tell you who it was: NO ONE...
From the mob mentality the ran this administration in 2002 and 2003, that helped it make significant gains in 2002 election with all these lies, no one was going to get anywhere by challenging the Saddam-has-to-go Folks.
That's the final proof that Bush's "My Ass is on the line/Screw the Veterans" Day speech is just a poor magician's trick.

in his face, see if he can grimmace just a wee bit more than he already does.

http://www.factcheck.org/article177.html
Missing Context

It is true that when Kerry first ran for the Senate in 1984 he did call specifically for canceling the AH-64 Apache helicopter, but once elected he opposed mainly such strategic weapons as Trident nuclear missiles and space-based anti-ballistic systems. And Richard Cheney himself, who is now Vice President but who then was Secretary of Defense, also proposed canceling the Apache helicopter program five years after Kerry did. As Cheney told the House Armed Services Committee on Aug. 13, 1989:

Cheney: The Army, as I indicated in my earlier testimony, recommended to me that we keep a robust Apache helicopter program going forward, AH-64; . . . I forced the Army to make choices. I said, "You can't have all three. We don't have the money for all three." So I recommended that we cancel the AH-64 program two years out. That would save $1.6 billion in procurement and $200 million in spares over the next five years.

Two years later Cheney's Pentagon budget also proposed elimination of further production of the Bradley Fighting Vehicle as well. It was among 81 Pentagon programs targeted for termination, including the F-14 and F-16 aircraft. "Cheney decided the military already has enough of these weapons," the Boston Globe reported at the time.

Does that make Cheney an opponent of "weapons vital to winning the war on terror?" Of course not. But by the Bush campaign's logic, Cheney himself would be vulnerable to just such a charge, and so would Bush's father, who was president at the time.
