1. Just re-watched that series myself . . .
Some filmakers just have "the gift."

2. Each segment's introductions was haunting.
I particularly liked the 'Bottom rail on top, now, massa!' segment. The poetry and the ability of even private soldiers to compose well-written, full-of-emotion letters to their loved ones spoke to me.

3. Did they ever get to see "Eyes on the Prize"? Isn't that documentary
series now practically impossible to get because of copyright issues?

I hope they figure the copyright issues out because that is a show every kid needs to see. Many adults need to see it also.

I wish they would replay it over a couple of weeks on PBS.

6. Especially Part Two
which really points up how much we lost in 1968 when Martin Luther King and Robert Kennedy were assassinated within 2 months of each other.

That was the year things started to go sour in this country.

9. What reactions do you get? Are some just shocked because they
had no idea or do they already know all about it?

11. They are revolted by the brutality of man's inhumanity to man...
both in the "Civil War" and "Eyes on the Prize"
.... those are the AP kids.
The average kids..... could care less.
They want me to turn the DVD off and put it on BET

13. Good going. What about the ones on jazz or baseball?
Or is that too much of a stretch?

14. I really liked the late Shelby Foote's commentaries.

He spoke almost as though he had been an eyewitness to the events of which he spoke.
