1. Come on down to
New Orleans and visit his statue in Jackson Square right in front of St Louis Cathedral and just a few miles from where the Battle of New Orleans took place. Gosh awful historical.

2. Neat
And what I found really inspiring about Jackson is he's the first and only president to never have a debt. The only other time we came close to that was with Bill Clinton. Both democrats. As Howard Dean said: you can't trust republicans with your money.

5. Oh yes
He did do a lot of bad things. I found it sad how he fired people just so he could hire his friends. You should get someone cause they can do the job.

9. R i g h t
It would have been so much better if settlement had been confined to the Eastern seaboard and the remainder of the continent left in the perpetual possession of wandering bands of hunter-gatherers.
:sarcasm:
The destruction of the Native American societies isn't a pretty part of history, but I cannot conceive of it not happening.

And I can never understand why Old Hickory, the first champion of the Common Man is so reviled on this website while the warmongering imperialist gun nut Teddy Roosevelt gets so much love.

8. Jackson had his share of scandals too.
When he was a young man, he married his wife, Rachel, who thought her exhusband had divorced her but he hadn't. Her husband showed up and threatened to ruin Jackson's budding political career by accusing him of being a bigamist. Jackson refused to pay extortion.

The divorce eventually went through and Jackson re-married Rachel, but it took a toll on his wife and she died prematurely.
