On C-Span, Sunday November 28, during their call-in-program, a caller brought up the subject of the moral ethics of Embryonic Stem Cell research. The caller truly believed that Embryonic Stem cells were living beings. And, strongly condemned the practice of useing them in research. It was the callers belief that doing so would be tantamount to killing a human being and was absolutely convinced he/she was right.
I find that view extraordinary. Only in America, would a die hard zealot make such an extraordinary statement. Without appearing to be too frivolous, regarding this very serious matter, I would like to take this discussion to another level.
GW's decision to restrict Embryonic Stem Cells research is simply pandering to his eccentric neocon religious right. If he "truly" believes these cells are living human beings. If that is their true belief: then, I believe, those possessing those cells, should be allowed to provided each a name. That way they would, able to obtain,a Social Security Number, for each of them.
This would allow those owners, to name them claim them as dependants and receive a tax deduction on their Federal and State income tax.
What do you think?
