Awwwww! The Little Children Protesting The Monster in the White House!
What great parents they have!

:loveya:

Nine-year-old Madison Wilson, left, of Highlands Ranch, Colo., joins her 7-year-old sister, Riley, in banging their spoons against pots during a protest against the appearance of President Bush at a fundraising event for U.S. Rep. Marilyn Musgrave, R-Colo., Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2005. Protesters marched from the State Capitol to the downtown hotel where Bush appeared to voice their opposition to the president's policies and the war in Iraq. (AP Photo/David Zalubowski)

6. Oh heck...sorry I misread...you put "Monsters" you see in your title
Edited on Tue Nov-29-05 06:21 PM by ...of J.Temperance
Dammit, I'm dim sometimes! I'll delete that post. I just saw "Monsters", I didn't read the actual caption under the picture...I therefore just thought it was a pro-Junior rally!

I thought it said "that the children were monsters..." but it was that they were PROTESTING the Monster in the WH.

Misunderstanding, my fault.

16. Most confooz-ed
It's brainwashing when it's pro-chimp but not when it's anti-chimp?

18. Yes.
Except that we should prefer to call truthful brainwashing "political education." Besides, if its reasonable that fundamentalists can teach that the flat earth was created in seven days by a giant fairy, its perfectly reasonable for us to teach our kids decent values.

5. So ...

I'm a warped POS because I took my daughter to a peace rally a few months ago to give her some practical experience with peacefully expressing dissent?

Weird ...

12. Fair enough ...

I thought that might be the case, but I wanted to make sure ... the misreading part, not the dropping on the head part. :-)

13. Very interesting, this beating of pans: a form of protest used...
by the courageously socialist women of Central and South America for protesting fascism, a tactic that in Pinochet's Chile, Batista's Cuba and the various other U.S.-owned despotcies could literally get you tortured to death.

I have heard -- though I have seen no evidence to support the claim -- the pan-beating tactic originated in the Spanish Republic of the 1930s, employed by socialist women to disrupt fascist demonstrations and interrupt fascist speakers.

In any case, especially from the perspective of the semioticist, the emergence of this particular tactic at this particular time in the U.S. is surely worthy of note. Hope-inspiring, too: perhaps a sign of political awakening far greater than materialistic vexation at fuel prices.

19. It's called cacerolazo
And I'm pretty sure it originated in Argentina. I could be wrong, though. Pots and pans are natural noisemakers, and even the poorest of folks have them, so it would seem that this form of protest must have been tried sometime before.
