Hold on to your asses article mentions at least 12 YEEEAAAA !!!

White House Watch: GOP advisers urge resignations in Abramoff scandal

As the Abramoff-Scanlon lobbying scandal unfolds with greater speed, congressional Republican advisers are urging leadership officials to call on those linked to it to consider resigning long before the 2006 midterm elections

"They should step aside now," said one adviser with ties to the House Republican leadership and the White House. "If they leave now, we could still hold their seat."

GOP officials are worried that the lobbying affair could include more than a dozen lawmakers and potentially spell disaster for the Republican majority in the House. Political strategists said that if members suspected in it leave early enough, they won't become issues in the fall 2006 election. One Republican strategist cited the New Jersey governor's election, in which Democrat Jon Corzine was able to replace a scandal-hit Democratic governor, Jim McGreevey, who had resigned months earlier.

10. Take a look here
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=104x5489150

For Example;

So Sen. Conrad Burns says he didn't really know Jack Abramoff that well at all and that he's getting a bad rap for alleged ties to the disgraced power-lobbyist.

So let's review a little history.  Burns and Abramoff ... the early days.

Aug 11, 2005 -- 02:00:01 AM EST

Now, come the following year, Burns becomes chairman of the Interior subcommittee on Apropriations.  That's a nice branch for Burns to be perched on as far as Abramoff is concerned, since that's where all the money for Indian affairs stuff gets parcelled out.  And it is of course here that those goodies for the tribe in Michigan -- the one at the center of the disputed TV ad -- got doled out.

So why did Sen. Burns help get the Saginaw Chippewa Tribe of Michigan, one of the wealthiest tribes in the country, $3 million from an Interior Department program designed to restore dilapidated schools on impoverished Indian reservations?  Interior itself was against the funding, seeing as the tribe didn't qualify under the program's rules.  But Burns office pulled out all the stops for the money, even delegating a special staffer, Ryan Thomas, to haggle with Interior over the funds.

14. Thanks!
All this is so confusing as it unfolds. It's ironic it started with the Lousiana/Mississippi casinos that involves all these so called christian folks.

7. The devil is in the details
When people start hearing just about the comp. meals alone, the extravagant food and bar bills from Jack's Signature restaurant, it won't be pretty.

On top of the Dukes Yacht, etc.

People will freak out

9. Corrupt Republicans, Don't listen to this BAD advice!
You worked hard for your seat, and you DESERVE IT!

If you have ANY balls, you will fight this to the bitter end!

Follow the Bush* example. Just LIE LOUDER and MORE OFTEN!
The voters are STUPID; they will believe you!

Knock down some towers or something.
That IS the REPUBLICAN thing to do.
Don't take this lying down!

Where are those other assholes who said they had YOUR back?
Those bastards are letting you Take the RAP for them.
THEY hung YOUR ass out to dry!.
Don't let those assholes get away with it.
Most of them are dirtier than you; BLOW THE WHISTLE ON THEM.
Your voters will appreciate that and re-elect you......honest.....

13. wow--we could actually get majority status because THEY R CRIMINALS!!
not because of an election (which will be fixed, so how could we win?)

kinda makes me believe in a just god.

But I always knew they were too lame and short of integrity to prosper with their complicated and cruel plan.

Ha...sob.

They could forget about NYC for the next convention, and save a lot of money by renting a motel room in Hackensack.

20. Not an issue? ROTFL
Like Nixon, who resigned in '74, wasn't an issue in '76? If the scandal is personal, then yes, party affiliation may be a non-issue in the next election. If the scandal is, or is perceived to be, a consequence of the party's philosophy or actions, then it will be a factor. (For reference, note how Gore was guilty by association - Clinton's personal immorality became Gore's, though no one accused Gore of having an affair.) Thus, if the public perceives that the corruption is not individual, but a trait of Republicanism, or at least a perverted form of it, then anyone associated with that (virulent) strain will be seen as more of the same.
