When you use your perception of Ann Coulter's gender ambiguity as a joke to slam her with, you are slamming ALL of us who either have an ambiguous gender or who are actually transgendered. It looks like almost everyone else here has managed to learn this and adapt, except for you. Get a clue and get with the program. This isn't funny.

I'm fat and I don't give a damn when somebody bitches out Karl "pigboy" Rove for his weight. I know that the weapon is only being used because he's a walking, talking tuckus. No one would take shots at somebody who actually was transgendered or gender neutral, either. To me, there's an implicit understanding that the reason we hate Ann is because she's Ann. It has nothing to do with her gender, and the only reason it's aimed at her isn't because most of us think transgendered people are like Ann, but because she's enough of a stupid prig that it would offend her narrow-minded "sensibilities". That's my take on it anyway.

I am also not the only TG person on this board who is offended, and not the only person with TG friends or family who is offended. This has been going on for a while and it needs to stop.

I can understand that being fat makes a person subject to discrimination and rudeness, and that it can make life difficult in many ways every day. I understand that it can often be related to depression, and that very often a person has to make a choice between living a life of constant struggle to master the body or living life in a fat body. However, the situations are not all that similar.

Nobody ever has to come out to their family and say "Mom, Dad, husband, wife, son, daughter... I'm fat." Fat people don't have to fear every time they turn over their driver's license that someone will actually pay attention to the F or M marker on it and cause a public disturbance because it's been found out they're secretly fat. Fat people don't get denied the right to pee in a public bathroom because they're fat. Fat people aren't thrown out of their families, churches or places of worship for being fat. Fat people can still go to homeless shelters. Fat people are not often murdered for being discovered to be fat, fat people aren't often assaulted for walking down the street in the wrong neighborhood while being publicly fat. Fat people can in some cases change their bodies and no longer be fat without having to have the approval of two counselors. Fat people don't have to spend a year living as thin people before they're allowed to lose weight. Fat people don't have to take proof that they have changed their bodies to become thin to prove to the courts that they are no longer fat, and then risk one day being legally fat again despite all the external evidence to the contrary. Fat people don't have to change their names. Most thin people don't fear a fat person being around their children.

For those reasons and many many more, it's not the same. I appreciate your kindness and your attempt to reach out, make peace, and understand, but please don't tell me how I should feel.

I'm not about to tell you I know anything about being transgendered. Please don't presume you know anything about being fat. Fat people have been murdered for being fat. Fat people have lost their jobs, their lives, their children and more for being fat. Bigots will find a reason to hate you, no matter what they have to look for. It means nothing about us. It means everything about them.

I also think you would simply like to be right. There's no way that being fat is the same experience as being transgendered. There's no way that the two experiences can be reasonably compared. Jobs, yes. There is job discribimation. Suicide? Yes. Children? Maybe. But that's really a stretch to try to say that these two things are the same.

You also can't see me and have no idea what I know or don't know about the experience. You don't know who my friends are or what they have gone through because of the shapes of their bodies. You are presuming what you need to presume in order to make what you think is a winning argument, in an argument that is defending people's right to be bigoted on a "liberal" message board. If you can get some peace out of ignoring bigots and letting people walk all over you, then go have your peace. I'd really rather not, and I have as little patience for people who tell me to shut up and turn away from bigots as I do for the bigots themselves.
