Katie Couric: CBS Evening News anchor?
USA Today: Media Mix
Peter Johnson
Couric quiet as NBC, CBS make changes at top

....Neither Couric nor network executives involved in any talks with her would discuss the status of the negotiations Tuesday.

But Couric told USA TODAY in the spring that she hoped to make a decision sometime this fall on whether she will stay with NBC.

Couric has confirmed in separate interviews that CBS chief Leslie Moonves has been courting her to replace Dan Rather on the CBS Evening News, which is a perennial also-ran in the race with Nightly News and No. 2 ABC's World News Tonight.

But Capus predicted that any announcement on Couric's future "is a little bit down the road" because her contract is not up until spring 2006....

1. That is what I've heard too

3. She is a horrible anchor.
And she has done more than her share of right-wing shilling, as has Matt Lauer.

I always appreciate a Newsperson, but they are apparently in short supply now days. Why even some whom I thought were newspeople have been revealed to be anything but.

7. Ewww... somehow I just CANNOT see Ms. Perky doing
a serious news show.

I'm sure - if they're looking for a woman - they could find someone who could handle doom without the gleam in her eye.

9. She's the worst of worst
She's a NEWSMODEL who's past her prime and she hates plastic surgery.

If she was a real journalist her looks woudln't matter but she's not. She's a washed up NEWSMODEL. Sad really. Good things she's already worth 100+ million. Being a shill for the man is highly profitable.

A thousand :puke:'s on that.

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

She's terrible at interviews, she talks over her guests and co-hosts, she breaks out into song randomly, criticizes the writers on air when *ding ding ding* they were right--(I remember her asking why the writers had spelled "die" d-i-e as opposed to d-y-e as in "the die has been cast" and mocking them a little for it. Guess how it's spelled? Oh yeah. Not Katie's way.)--and those gratuitous colon shots! She'd be terrible. Terrible terrible terrible as a network nightly news anchor.

Surely she isn't the only lady around they could offer the job to.

they want to attract a younger demographic. It's all the networks can think about these days.

14. ...And Aaron Brown Goes To Faux???
http://www.mediabistro.com/tvnewser/cnn/brown_i_think_they_made_a_mistake_28788.asp

In today's NY Post, Liz Smith reports on her lunch with former CNN star Aaron Brown. She asked what he thinks of CNN's negative move on him:

"Of course, I think they made a mistake," he laughed. "But...they're entitled."

What's next? "I don't know exactly what I will do." He might write a book.

When Roger Ailes passed by their table at Michael's, "Aaron expressed admiration for the manner in which Fox beats the pants off its competitors. 'They are the most on-target, disciplined bunch I've ever seen!' he told Roger." Ailes made a lunch date with Brown...

THANK GOODNESS FOR THE INTERNET!!!!!

19. This is horrible.
The last 2 Evening News with Bob Scheiffer, and the CBS News Reporter from inside Iraq (Laura ?)have been DIRECT "In Your Face" rebuttals of Rummy's and Bush"s LIES.
Bush* and Rummy say."We're WINNING"
Laura(inside Iraq) says "No we aren't. They are lying".

No wonder TPTB are replacing Schieffer.
The CBS Evening News lately has been the best, most direct, confrontation of White House Propaganda (with the exception of The Daily Show and perhaps Olberman)

Was there any indication that this change was "in the works" before this week's reports?
Is this another move to control the news?

23. who gives a rats ass....
the MSM is too well fed, too friendly to those they report on, eat too well, and get paid too much. They are simply celebrities with a different gig than J Lo or Brittany. They have too much personal greed and avarice to bite any hand that might feed them. This is not journalism.

25. Peter Principle alert!
Wait a minute. My bad. She'd have to have been competent at something before this would apply to her.

http://pespmc1.vub.ac.be/PETERPR.html

The Peter Principle was first introduced by L. Peter in a humoristic book (of the same title) describing the pitfalls of bureaucratic organization. The original principle states that in a hierarchically structured administration, people tend to be promoted up to their "level of incompetence". The principle is based on the observation that in such an organization new employees typically start in the lower ranks, but when they prove to be competent in the task to which they are assigned, they get promoted to a higher rank. This process of climbing up the hierarchical ladder can go on indefinitely, until the employee reaches a position where he or she is no longer competent. At that moment the process typically stops, since the established rules of bureacracies make that it is very difficult to "demote" someone to a lower rank, even if that person would be much better fitted and more happy in that lower position. The net result is that most of the higher levels of a bureaucracy will be filled by incompetent people, who got there because they were quite good at doing a different (and usually, but not always, easier) task than the one they are expected to do.

33. One positive: wingnuts H-A-T-E Katie.
I have no idea why, but they seem to think she's a lefty.

So CBS hiring her will make many Freepigs just that much more paranoid about the "liberal mainstream media."

Beyond that, I should care, why? I never watch network news unless I've absolutely nothing else to do at the time it's being air and I don't have access to a better news source.

Rare instances these days.
