George W. Bush was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize
I point this out because in every "Save Tookie" thread I've seen so far, the fact that Tookie was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize is mentioned.

To that I say, so what? They nominated Bush for it. Anyone can be NOMINATED for it. I could be nominated for it.

This still doesn't change the fact that before Tookie was arrested, convicted and condemned, as a co-founder of the Crips he holds great responsibility for helping to turn Los Angeles into a war zone. Nor does it change the fact that he killed four people in very brutal fashion.

3. Announcements of NPP nominations are fake, anyway
The Nobel board doesn't publicize whom they're considering for the Peace Prize, do they? It's just another bullshit-scented feather in the caps of con artists.

6. The Swedish Academy doesn't publicize the shortlist, no
Remember, being NOMINATED doesn't mean you're WORTHY. Like I said, someone nominated Bush and the only "peace" he's ever been interested in is a "peace of ass" in Ciudad Juarez when he was taking a well-deserved respite from protecting Texas from Viet Cong invasion.

So all these people get nominated, and the ones you KNOW aren't gonna make it start bragging about the fact they're on the list. Then the Academy picks a handful of actual peacemakers and chooses the laureate from that list.

I think they know before nominations open up who the honoree will be.

4. Thou shalt not kill!
And......pre-meditated murder by a government agency of one of it's citizens is creepier than any gang related killing.

17. Being nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize is equivalent to getting a
star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame: All you need are sponsors, and you're on the list.

How barbaric. Anyone who wishes to have a person killed is missing something the world has to offer...

9. You make a good point re: nominations, but the death penalty is wrong
no matter what, IMHO, and using a high profile example to get people talking about it is a good thing.

The death penalty is not something that so-called 'civilized' countries do. It has never been proven to reduce crime, it is utilized unfairly in our system, and when a mistake is made it cannot be fixed. State-sanctioned killing - all it does it make killing okay. I don't want to live in a society where killing is okay - by anyone.

Peace.

I feel that the death penalty is one answer to Michael Moore's question in Bowling for Columbine on why Americans are so violent and so full of blood-lust. The government is setting an example to the governed that murder is okay if the killer believes the killing is justified. America's obsession with war does the same thing.

Message from America --- "Killing is Justified"

How and why should we be sending such a message in the 21st Century!

16. Exactly.

A person sees the government killing criminals who have committed horrible crimes. So in that person's mind if someone commits what he sees as a horrible crime against him, then killing that person is justified. Then that killer gets arrested and in all likelihood will get the death penalty himself, all for committing the same act that is sanctioned by the state. It's a horrible vicious cycle, and we SHOULD be more advanced than that in this 21st Century. I guess this is what happens when we have Regressives constantly vying for control.

10. Doesn't matter. The issue is giving the state the right to kill its own.
Death penalty is wrong and THIS is what should be debated. Tookie is just a temporary focal point.

18. As with many convicted of the death panalty, however,...
there appear to have been problems with the prosecution. Read the savetookie.org site for details.

I generally support the death penalty, but to me, if there's a valid question of the convicted person's guilt, then the death sentence should be commuted.
