Howard Dean unofficially endorses 5-10% 08 delegates=gay/lesbian
Dean On Gays
DNC Chairman Howard Dean unofficially endorsed a move by gay Democrats to require the party to guarantee that 5 to 10 percent of their '08 convention delegates are gay or lesbian.

"Of course that's a good idea," Dean said during a meeting with the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender caucus Friday evening.

The caucus unanimously passed a resolution urging the DNC to do so. Dean agreed to consider the move. "But I can probably tell you right now that I think it's a good idea."

"The only problem is that you can't tell by looking at somone whether they're gay. At least I can't because my gaydar isn't that good," Dean said to laughter from the caucus.

2. Yet another reason why Governor Dean is such a good DNC chair.
IMO.

And how many gay/lsebian delegates will be at the 2008 GOP convention? 1%? 2%? (in spite of having a closeted gay man as RNC Chair). And that includes the Log Cabiners.

What Dean is endorsing is just good sense. Our (the GLBT vote) is, if I understand correctly, something like 5% nationally. It just makes good sense, IMO, to reflect our vote nationwide at the convention. Dean is committed to making the Democrats a truly inclusive party.

BTW: nice quote about the gaydar. Not every one has fully functioning gaydar. :-)
