2. it was also a distraction last season
as was the kerflfuffle over the post office having a stamp for christians, santa, AND muslims.

i was raised christian - tho the teachings i was raised on have nothing in common with those espoused by the fundies. i was taught compassion, tolerance, to love my fellow man, and that my religion was to be seen in my actions, not my words.

i am no longer christian, but i still try to live by the beliefs i was raised with. i find myself getting enraged however when someone gets in my face with the "reason for the season" and "it's MERRY CHRISTMAS" when i say happy holidays or seasons greetings.

not all of us believe in christ, therefore why would i say "merry christmas"? i have o objection if someone cheerfully says merry christmas, mind you - just i HATE getting an earful from the bulging eyed fruitcakes out to "defend christianity"

3. Oh, but there are only five threads on this vital distraction on the front
page right now. We need at least eight to know that the wingers are truly wasting our attention on this sort of bullshit.

6.  In my neighborhood, which is probably
50% Christian, 45% Jewish, and 5% other, people simply say "Happy Holidays" rather than presuming that any one person celebrates any given holiday. Why can't people simply get into the ecumenical spirit and wish each other well? Fundie nutcases are creating problems where none exist.

7. I am Jewish ...
... and every year, people wish me a Merry Christmas and, in the spring, they wish me a Happy Easter.

My response is always the same: "Thanks so much, and the same to you."

Someone wishing you well, regardless of the season, the holiday, or the religious significance thereof, is a kindness expressed by one human being to another.

How could one possibly take any offence at being wished merriment and happiness?
