If Dems win back the House or Senate, what should be first thing on agenda
Do they call for instant investigations? Do they request that Bush work with them to pass some meaningful legislation? Do they hold impeachment hearings? What should they do first?

5. If the actions suggested in Posts 1 & 2 are followed ...
... I'm happy!

But if we can go on to No. 3, rescind the 'tax cuts' to the wealthiest one percent of Americans -- and make it RETROACTIVE! Then use the money to put NOLA and environs back on the map, and get the Katrina victims back on their feet.

12. Campaign finance reform.
Public funding with absolute spending caps, totally independent issue advocacy with no mentions of candidates or Parties. Second, national election day as a national holiday with no exceptions but health and human services with guaranteed time to get to the polls. Police and Fire and Emergency available but absolutely no retail or service industry.

15. Investigate, investigate, investigate.
Start with 2000, 2002 and 2004 election fraud (then get rid of the FREAKIN' evoting machines), investigate the run up to the illegal invasion, then start impeachment proceedings, indict and prosecute ALL of them.

28. Hold impeachment hearings for the whole White House
meaning Cheney and the entire cabinet. Of course they would have to have investigations first. They will only lie and obstruct the way to meaningful legislation so I don't consider this an option.

29. Legislation to take down "corporate personhood" judicial activism...
Edited on Mon Dec-05-05 01:04 AM by calipendence
Roberts and some on the court might no like it, but a sizable majority in the congress could write law to clarify that corporations don't have the same rights as individuals, which would help us fix A LOT of things and start taking away this creeping coporate feudalism before it goes too far.

And perhaps some legislation so that if companies outsource more of their work than they hire here, then they ALSO have to either outsource or move their corporate execs and CEOs overseas too. Make it so that they can't get their cake and eat it too when they try to get cheap slave labor and fatten themselves here. They will have to globalize their own living habits by being forced out of this country, if they don't choose to try and utilize it's labor and other resources effectively.

39. Good thread
I would support -

1.) an immediate apology for our actions over the last 6 years and explain we were temporarily insane but the problem has been fixed.

2.) a new voting system created by a triumvirate of ACLU, MIT, and CalTech that is both secure and open source.

3.) rapid reinvestment in our educational programs at the expense of the defense industry and military.

This is like wishing on the lotto - I know, but sometimes even the poorest win.
