Death sought for teen accused of killing girlfriend's parents
http://www.suntimes.com/output/news/cst-nws-slain17.html

LANCASTER, Pa. -- A prosecutor said Friday he will seek the death penalty against an 18-year-old accused of killing the parents of his 14-year-old girlfriend, and no criminal charges will be brought against the girl.

Lancaster County District Attorney Don Totaro said statements from the suspect, David Ludwig, have exonerated Kara Beth Borden, and convinced investigators that she had no role in planning or carrying out last month's shootings of her parents. snip

Prosecutors allege Ludwig killed Michael and Cathryn Borden on Nov. 13 after an argument over his relationship with their daughter. Kara Borden was with him when he was captured the next day in Indiana, after a chase that ended with him crashing his parents' car.

Totaro said reasons the death penalty is justified include that there was more than one victim, and that the couple's children were home at the time.

This boys parents appear to be right wing fundies by the reports I have heard. So I would assume they are also pro-death penalty? Wonder what they think about the death penalty now?

1. It's a tragic case.
The three circumstances that the prosecutor puts forward in asking for the death penalty are unlikely to sway a jury to return that sentence. Hopefully, there will be a plea that puts the fellow in prison for a long, long, long time....even life without the possibility of parole.

The killer's parents seem to have been "survivalists." I'm unaware of anything that points to their being right-wing, though in upstate NY, the coverage is perhaps less than in other areas of the country. But there are many survivalists who could not accurately be considered either right- or left-wing. I'm not sure what their beliefs have to do with the case, other than perhaps putting their son's mind-set in context. It has also been reported that they were in agreement with the victims of the killings, about putting an end to the young man & the girl's relationship. I would suggest that it is possible to see them as victims in a very real sense, and that one might have more insight by taking an objective look, rather than sneering at their suffering.
