They (Bush Regime) Can't Win -- We (Legitimate US) Have a Shot
Edited on Sat Dec-17-05 10:07 AM by pat_k
Impeachment is our only route to re-establishing our legitimacy.

Dean almost had it right when he said "We Can't Win the War". It's too bad he failed to grasp the real problem with the assertion. Rather than retreating from it, he should have made a simple substitution.

The problem is not the "un-winnable" part, it is the "We" part. The most effective, and correct change is

from "WE Can't Win"

to "THEY Can't Win"

This regime took upon itself power We the People did not give it. Instead of protecting and defending our Constitutional Democracy, they stole it from us in corrupt elections, then they trampled and violated it.

"They Can't Win" is a message grounded in reality. It draws a bright line between the Abuses of Power and International crimes they have committed without our consent. The substitution has strength that demands action: Impeachment. Until we put our own house in order, our broken and hijacked nation is incapable of being a force for good anywhere on this planet.

Good things do not grow out of the seeds of evil. Immoral and unlawful means will never result in moral and legitimate ends. We must dig up the rotten seeds and do our best to start anew. We must punish their actions, establish legitimate and moral leadership, and seek to repair the damage done in ways we can be proud of.

It is time for our leaders to see the truth -- that their oath to protect and defend the Constitution requires them to stand up and demand Impeachment and removal of this criminal regime.

Any risks they perceive -- ridicule, political suicide -- are nothing compared to what the members of our armed services face.

We expect our soldiers, sailors, and marines to risk life and limb to preserve our Constitutional Democracy. We should expect no less from our candidates and elected officials.

Iraq is at the center of the crimes this regime has committed. Impeachment is the only escape from complicity with the horrors they have wrought there. We the People (currently best represented by "We the Democrats") must separate ourselves from this regime. We must dissociate ourselves from their actions. Recognizing and cutting out the cancer provides:

A clarity that reflects reality.

A clarity that is simple and resonates.

A clarity that is powerful and right.

A clarity that allows us to shed the shame associated with the failures and abuses of the Bush regime.

A clarity that creates an emotional context that allows Americans to feel good about themselves.

A clarity that is attractive because it meets so many needs.

There is power in truth.

Impeachment NOW!

2. If we keep the pressure on, the GOP will impeach him before the elections.
They are fracturing and recognizing that Bush is a serious liability to them, and eventually they will need to flush him for their own self-preservation (of careers).

I think he'll be gone by August.

3. Absolutely! No rationalization can justify sitting on our hands until 2006
Edited on Sat Dec-17-05 10:17 AM by pat_k
I wish more people "got it." Too many resist the call to action by asserting their belief that the effort would be futile until the Dems have retaken the house.

This is just a specific instance of the more general "Can't happen, so don't try" attitude that is so frequently asserted as a rationalization for inaction.

This notion is mystifying. Why should we sit our hands because an effort may not be successful? With a little leadership, "Impeach Bush" numbers could rapidly go over 70%. Members of the House – even a Republican House -- would find it tough to block serious Resolutions of Inquiry when 70 or 80% of their constituents are calling for blood.

The people hell-bent on making it a crime for a frightened women to end a pregnancy have never allowed the futility of their effort stop them. Why is it that so many people on the center/left find it so tough to just get out there and fight their battles, come what may? We like to think of ourselves as reasonable people, but it is insane to guarantee failure with the notion "can't be done, so don't try." It only makes sense if you believe in your own omniscience (which is nuts).

5. Even if it turns out the Pukes won't do the job,
we can prepare the ground so the country will be ready to move as soon as Congress flips.

6. Next summer will be a key time
The election campaign will be in full swing. Bush will be looking forward to taking his yearly Supervacation from July to the first big crisis of the Autumn. He'll be withdrawing troops from Iraq, with an increase in insurgency and calls for the withdrawls to stop.

But much more than those little problems, Bush will be facing the fruition of several investigations, and probably the first lawsuits over the mishandling of the Katrina/Wilma disasters. Huge financial risks, not to mention several impeachable offenses, will be under examination.

Right now, Bush is managing to keep a little stability. The economic markets are mildly improved (instead of totally stagnant as they had been until this Summer) and his positives are oscillating around 38%. People are more interested in Christmas, and his culture vultures are being entertained by the bogus "War on Christmas".

After Christmas, though, the weather will turn cold -- for real, not just this abnormally-cold stuff we've had across North America. The price of natural gas is already up to nearly $15/MMCF, and light crude is starting to climb again. I am certain that there will also be a number of frozen babies and old folks by the first of March. All of this will point right back to the Boy-King.

And I'm sure I've forgotten a few things, too.

As Bush sails slowly into the growing maw of the maelstrom he so skillfully created, the Republican Party will splinter and the Conservative movement(s) will bubble away like so much liquid nitrogen, the stuff that is created in their cryogenically compassionate hearts. The remnant of the Republican Party will have a lot of soul-searching to do, and hopefully will return to their pre-Taft, Midwestern, paleo-Progressive roots. That is, the Republican Party of Abe Lincoln and Teddy Roosevelt -- or at least its ideal.

The Big Question for us is -- are we prepared to step in and take the reins of leadership?

7. We need to make noise now too! Every little bit makes a difference.
We need to make noise now too. Strike while the iron is hot and all. Every action makes a dent. We may find some of our leaders are more willing to move on Impeachment than we realize.

This week, bring up Impeachment in as many contexts as possible. Perhaps the topic will get some traction as people come together in holiday gatherings.

Give your Rep. and Senators a call too. Some offices will be open. Republican or Democratic, they have all taken an oath to protect and defend our Constitution. Send a fax or two over the holidays. If they were met by a mountain of faxes on January 3rd, it would certainly make an impression.

Here are a few points our leaders need to hear over and over and over again, until they show us they "get it" by acting (and even then we'll need to be on the look out for rationalizations and backsliding).

--------- Point 1-------------

The Executive Branch under Bush and Cheney is a rogue operation that must be put out of business. Their violations of our common contract -- the Constitution We the People established for the United States of America -- are unprecedented. The evidence is overwhelming. To re-establish our legitimacy as a nation, we must purge their criminal syndicate from power.

--------- Point 2 -------------

To Exit {Iraq}, or Not To Exit, is NOT the Question!

Debating the things "Our Government" ought to do makes NO SENSE when "Our Government" DOES NOT EXIST.

Offering "plans" to the criminal syndicate only makes us complicit with their crimes. It is time to stop pretending they retain (or ever had) a semblance of legitimacy.

The incompetence and abuses of the Bush-Cheney criminal syndicate have cut off innumerable options and opportunities. When we re-establish legitimate leadership at home, new options and opportunities will open to us. Until we restore legitimacy at home and take time to fully access our predicament, it is simply not productive to speculate on next steps.

--------- Point 3 -------------

"THEY Can NOT Win in Iraq"
(where THEY = Bush Regime)

This assertion is firmly grounded in reality. WE are not THEM.

Good things do not grow out of seeds of evil. Immoral and unlawful means can never result in moral and legitimate ends. We cannot move forward with hope abroad until we have moved them out of the way.

--------- Point 3 -------------

As a Member of Congress, you took an oath to protect and defend the Constitution. America is in the midst of an unprecedented crisis. Your oath demands action. Your oath calls on you lead, or join, the effort to Impeach Bush and Cheney.

You cannot invoke a perception of political or personal risk as a rationalization for inaction. When compared to the risks faced by the members of our armed services, the risks in this fight are insignificant

We expect our soldiers, sailors, and marines to risk life and limb to preserve our Constitutional Democracy. We the People expect no less from our candidates and elected officials.

--------- Point 3 -------------

Half-measures do more harm than good.

Reports and investigations by themselves cannot restore legitimacy to our Constitutional Democracy. When we identify wrongs, we must demand redress; we must demand punishment. There is no accountability without consequence.

In the face of wrongdoing, we must do more than declare our intent to prevent future wrongs. When we take half-measures, the reactionary right just chuckles and says:

"Whew! For a second there I thought they were actually going to DO something!"
