I Need Help!!
I'm taking a college freshman english course (been out of school 20 years!!). We are doing a compare/contrast paper. I would appreciate some help on comparing the Republicans views on Healthcare vs. the Democrats views. I've become very interested in politics, but still have much to learn. Could anyone of you intelligent (I know there are plenty of you) people help me with this? I'd appreciate your input. Thanks.

1. Find the party platforms
check the DNC and the RNC. Perhaps take major candidates platforms/positions.

Narrow your subject - and take on different aspects (comparisons and contrats). Are you talking about health insurance and coverage of the poor? Are you talking about extending medicare or some form of insurance to the uninsured? Are you talking about approaches to 'universal health care' (which can take several forms).

Or are you instead interested in the issue around the escalating costs of prescription drugs?

8. then...
ask a couple of questions:

what to do about the uninsured?
is this related to financial need? (eg only the poor would qualify).

actually an important first question - is WHO are the uninsured? Find statistics - ages, married/single with children, employed, economic level...

Then ask how the platforms of the major party address those identified (above) people.

2. Off the top of my head
You can try looking online at the DNC and RNC sites and search for their official views on healthcare. Make sure to cite any pages you use (html address and date visited). If you are using the upcoming election as a springboard, you may want to visit individual candidates sites (yes, even Dumbya) and see what they have to say. That may give you some contrast and ammunition.
I'm sure others have better sources. Don't forget to use the library to access any periodicals or journals. They will add credibility and variety to your research.
Cite ALL sources!
Congrats on going back to school and good luck!

7. Maybe
the two major party platforms,
presidential candidate positions,
key leaders in the senate and house (maj. leader, maj. whip; minority leader; minority whip), and maybe your local congressperson and senators.

Agreed. Document/cite everything.

9. Thank you

I've been out of school for so long and my brain seems to be going in different directions (ughhh). I'll look up on the DNC & RNC websites for official views.

10. The DNC and RNC
They both have links dedicated to Medicaid.
This is a lot of info. My advice is to divide it in small sections so you can focus and digest it little by little. That really does help. Print out pages that you think you can use; the site address should be printed automatically (to cite-make sure to note the date you visited). Then edit as the focus of your paper comes into view. That will help you organize your material.

5. Try listening to Hartmann..
Listen to Thom Hartmann at ieamericaradio.com weekdays from noon to 3 p.m. Eastern time, or on Sirius satellite radio channel 145 at that same time. He talks about stuff like this all the time, and coincidentally he was talking about this very subject today. If you'd like to listen to today's show, you can download a 30MB MP3 of it at whiterosesociety.org.

11. Simple
Any plan that retains the status quo (insurance industry controlled) is Republican.
