Edited on Thu Oct-23-03 11:22 AM by Composed Thinker
Would any of these senators ever switch parties?

1. Olympia Snowe of Maine.
2. Susan Collins of Maine.
3. Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania.
4. Lincoln Chafee of Rhode Island.
5. John McCain of Arizona.

1. Specter -- no way
He's a dino, which with the repugs is a good thing, but he wouldn't switch. I would guess that if anything Chaffee would follow Jeffords and become an independent. But not a dem.

3. Chafee beat my mom's friend in the last Rhode Island election...

for his Senate seat. But from what I gather, he's not exactly a Bush Republican. Why do you think Snowe might one day defect?

4. Chaffee Has Been Courted Several Times
from what I've heard and if he hasn't done it by now, I don't know that he will. But the NE Republicans do seem to be more moderate than their breathern.

6. Collins and Snowe no way.
They may be moderate, but their still Bourgeoisie!
Especially that Snowe lady with her nose.

You should see that nose in person!

Huge! I'm talking Pinnochio!

Seriously, for some reason people up here vote democrat for house but republican for senate.

Stupid hicks.

15. No way
In order to defect she would also get her husband to go along, (R) Ex-Governer John McKernan, a rather stodgy conservative protestant.

13. Chafee
Sounds like a Dem locked up in a Repub's body. But the party controls them pretty well. Just look at the way they vote. No individualism allowed here. They have to vote with the party.

14. McCain has too much to lose
He may not always see eye-to-eye with them, but he's got seniority now... committee chairmanships... Switching parties would be bad for him, and ultimately, bad for us.

19. Voinovich of Ohio
He's challenged Shrub a lot recently, though I doubt he'd ever become a democrat. He's become one of the "least-hated" to me.

20. The 3 New Englanders should join Jeffords and become I's.
although they will be giving up a lot of perks (dinners, etc...) they enjoy now as GOP's.

21. Where's Miller?
Specter, Chafee, and McCain may all follow the Jeffords mold and go independent...but never all the way to our side, IMHO.
But if that happened, expect good ol' Zell to finally show his true colors and bolt the Party to the other side.
He has practically broken his neck to follow the Repukes in everything since he got sent up to the Senate.
He's a Democrat in name only. He carries the label. A real wolf in sheep's clothing.
