Majority Rule vs. Minority Rights

After participating in many lively discussions here on many issues, I have begun to ponder the struggle between Majority Rule and Minority Rights. Some issues (like school prayer, civil rights) is feel that minority rights are more important that majority rule. At this very moment I am hard pressed to think of a situation where the Majority's wishes are more important that protecting the rights of the Minority. (If someone can come up with some that would be great.)

So I guess the question is, do you think that there are situations where it should go one way or the other? What kinds of issues lend themselves to one way or the other?

2. In regards to wealth we have the worst possible situation

here are the three possible states, as we spiral towards facism we more resemble condition C.

(A)rule of the majority a.k.a mob rule

(B)proportional representation

(C)tyranny of the(non-repressed) minority a.k.a blue-bloods,neo-cons, busheviks etc.
