Can someone help settle a dispute
I'm having with my Mepublican brother? I am claiming that I heard that, right after 911 when the AG was in the spotlight and the Dept of Homeland Security was being put together, someone within one of these agencies suggested it may be plausibel to temporarily suspend/shut down the internet to disrupt terror planning on the net. Did anyone else hear this and, if so, do you have a source? My brother says I'm lying. Did I dream this? It was an idea that was quickly dismissed.

1. No...
I remember something about increased censorship, and then of course the very real (and very scary) Carnivore software that was touted as being the internet equivalent of the A-bomb.

Try these links, they're a bit dated, but they may help:

.::Wired Magazine::.
"Amid the nationalistic furor sweeping the United States in wake of the Sept. 11 attacks, many government and private websites are yanking content that could be deemed unpatriotic or risky to national security."

.::Electronic Frontier::.
"This page attempts to convey the chilling effect that responses to the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, have had on information availability on the Internet as well as some sense of the effect on people trying to provide this information."
