Congresswoman Hilda Solis Endorses Dean for President
EL MONTE, CA--Today, Congresswoman Hilda L. Solis of California endorsed Governor Dean, citing his work on ensuring access to affordable health care and protecting the environment.
"Dean is the political candidate we need to energize the American people," said Congresswoman Solis. "As a Latina and an environmentalist, I support Dean because he is truly compassionate and is serious about restoring our international credibility, protecting our environment, and improving conditions for working class families and women."
"We must restore our country's faith in the White House. I believe that Dean understands the role that a President plays in building support and will listen to the needs of the American people when making a decision," said Congresswoman Solis. "As a Doctor, Dean knows we are facing a health crisis in America and his expertise will bring a new focus and perspective on health issues."
"I'm pleased that Hilda Solis has joined our campaign to take our country back. She is a nationally recognized advocate for environmental justice, and she is a valuable addition to the greatest grassroots campaign presidential politics has ever seen," Governor Dean said.
First elected in 2000, Congresswoman Solis represents California's 32nd District, which encompasses the San Gabriel Valley and parts of East Los Angeles. This district includes the cities of Azusa, Baldwin Park, Duarte, El Monte, South El Monte, Irwindale, Rosemead, Covina, West Covina, the community of El Sereno and part of Monterey Park.
Congresswoman Solis is the first Latina to serve on the House's powerful Energy and Commerce Committee and chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus' Task Force on Health. She is also the first female recipient of the John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award, awarded for her pioneering work on environmental justice issues in California.
She is the governor's third congressional endorsement in less than 24 hours. She joins Reps.
