For the past week, there has been one phony scandal after another concerning Howard Dean in which he made a reasonable statement and the pundits pretended to be outraged.
In part this is to slime Dean and help Bush, but in part this is just to give the pundits something to talk about.
Trent Lott was Senate Majority Leader until December 20, 2002, when he was forced to resign because ordinary people who were offended by the pro-segregation implication of this remark broadcast on C-Span ----------- "I want to say this about my state: When Strom Thurmond ran for president, we voted for him. We're proud of it. And if the rest of the country had followed our lead, we wouldn't have had all these problems over all these years, either." -------------- made an issue of it until the pundits finally started talking about it.
My point is that while it's tempting to change the channel when George W. Bush is talking, if he does say something similarly outrageous to Trent Lott's remarks, we should try to press the issue until the pundits cover it.
The pundits may be pro-Bush, but there are also eager for material.
So if you notice something appalling in a George W. speech, please post it here, and we can try to get tv analysis of that part of the speech.
