A better idea than "free college"

The idea of "free" mostly means free to me, billed to someone else.These ideas are swell if you are the beneficiary of the "free" college or whatever the next "free" idea might be.
How about instead, we have the parents pay for the schooling of their children from Kindergarten to whatever level they want their child to go. Then we could allow those lowly worker people to retire four or five years earlier opening up all those fantastic job opportunities.
