Non political thread: Annoying Bush traits.
I noticed one this morning watching the tiny bit of the AIPAC speech I could stomach. He leans forward on the podium on one elbow, gets halfway through a sentence, and as he's pausing for "drama," he casually reaches down to his speech and flips the page without looking at it, then finishes his sentence (which usually ends with a word like "America.") It's as though he's trying to display "supreme confidence," but of course it comes across as arrogance. It was seeing this repulsive caricature of "swagger" that made me realize I couldn't stomach another second of the speech.

So what Bush tics bug the shit out of you?

That look he gives while someone else is speaking another language in front of him.
It looks like he thinks a joke is being played on him.
:grr:

8. It's probably related to the duckhead bobbing motion
Rove tried to stamp out of him before the last election. I think I saw him do the duck thing recently. As Skip Fox might say, you can take the duck out of the pond, but you can't take the duck out of the Duckwad.

7. The pauses in the middle of sentences are what get me too
I actually heard a clip of him today in which he got through a whole sentence without pausing once! It was a revelation - he sounded normal!

There was a programme on UK TV last night about politicians' body language (how to shake hands, walk etc. - it had a hilarious analysis of Bush and Clinton trying to outswagger each other at Bush's inauguration). Bush's particular 'tell' is chewing the inside of his mouth when he's nervous - you see it when he loses the swagger match with Clinton, and for a long time after he's been told about the second 9/11 plane. Watch him the next time he has to respond to questions.

9. The pause followed by the completed sentence--that Gestalt sickens me.
Every completed "thought" has the exact same tone as every other completed "thought." There is no variation whatever to his speaking style. There was a second after the overrated response to 9/11 and the 2002 ("Axis of Evil" :eyes: ) State of the Union when the RNC was pushing almost successfully to get Bush known as a "great communicator"--remember that? Chris Matthews, David Brooks and other talking heads were all agog after each one of his speeches for about a year. I don't hear people trying to push that line so much anymore.
