Opera users: Is there a free downloadable Opera browser?
Or do you have to pay for it upfront and then get upgrades? Thanks!

1. Free Opera with ads
There's a small banner ad displayed at the top of the browser window all the time.

Mozilla and Mozilla Firefox on the other hand, are 100% free.

3. I'm using Mozilla now (based on a DUer's recommendation!
I'm really happy with Mozilla; I was just curious to know what all the Opera fuss was about. Thanks for your help!

you get a bar on top that displays ads. Cant get rid of it.

If you want a larger view area or don't like ads, you can register your downloaded copy and the ads disappear for a fee. The registration key works with future versions and upgrades.

Jus try it, you might like it. It's my browser of choice. But it's not perfect. Sometimes i launch IE in special cases.

Or you can be a bad boy and get a registration key generator and fake it.

4. Opera
i use opera currently and have done so for a couple of years. the newest version (7.5) seems to be more stable than the previous version so far (the old one was prone to crashes).

opera does have a free version, with a small add banner as part of the browser window. but it is so small so as not to be even noticeable. also one of the better features of opera is a built in popup blocker. with opera i get NO pop up ads at all. with my mail.com email i used to get a ton of popups but no more ( i still get a full page ad that i must say yes or no to, in order to be able to continue but that is much better than the popups that hit all the time)

the biggest downside of opera is that some websites require IE or netscape for full functionality, so you might not be able to move away from them completely.

but other than that, Opera is excellent. I hightly recommend it.

5. Use Firefox
http://www.mozilla.org

As far as I can tell, it has all the functionality of Opera, but it's 100% Open Source (free as in speech).
