Would You Trade DU For A Democratic President?
If you could go back in time and somehow change the course of history and make Al Gore president of the United States, would you?

Knowing full well that if you did, Democratic Underground would not exist?

You wouldn't have any of your DU friends.

You'd never know who Will Pitt was.

You'd never see Matcom's ass.

You'd probably be less politically aware than you are now.

No Howard Dean, no John Kerry, no Wesley Clark, no Dennis Kucinich threads.

Knowing all that, would you give up DU for an Al Gore presidency?

2. Without even a second thought.
Let's not forget why we're all here. Just think of what we could focus our time on if we didn't have all of this shit to worry and hollar about all the time.

3. I love DU but hell yes!!

We have done marvolous things here; but damnit, it's not enough to keep up with the horrors created by Bush.

I honestly believe there would have been thousands of lives saved had Gore been president. I would sacrifice all of my DU friendships INCLUDING the joys of Matcom's ass to give these people their lives back!

4. No. But I'm glad I don't have to make that choice.
No, I'd keep DU, and not just for sentimental reasons. I don't feel that all the problems of progressives and liberals in this country will magically melt away if we get even a great liberal Democratic president in the White House.

We need a majority in both houses, we need power, and we need to spend some time undoing the damage that has been done.

9. Yup
All the thousands of people (Iraqi and American) that Bush has killed. If you add in Iraqi military as well as civilians, it's no doubt in the tens of thousands. And that doesn't count all the people who've been maimed in this senseless war.

Plus, we wouldn't have the horrid economic conditions that have made so many Americans destitute and without hope.

As much as I love DU, it isn't worth all that.

11. In A Heartbeat! And So Would The Relatives Of The Victims Of 9-11
We wouldn't have DU... but we would have over 3000 people, fathers, sons, mothers, daughters, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents and grandchildren who would be with us.

12. I doubt that
I think 9-11 would have happened if Gore were president. He surely would have responded differently, but I still think it would have occured.

13. I Think The Bush Cavalier Attitude & "Hands Off.. Let-It-Fester" Approach
to all things Middle East... and his arrogant antagonistic idiotic approach to foreign policy set the ball in motion.

Al Gore was much too sophisticated and intelligent to allow that to happen.

I'm afraid I'll have to disagree with you on this one.

I put the blame and responsiblity of everything leading up to 9-11 squarely on the shoulders of the Chimp. But not for his actions... 9-11 would have never ever happened.

14. I can see why you feel that way
It certainly makes sense, and I thought the same thing until I read this passage in a conspiracy-theory book that came out looong before 9-11:

"In 1996 Gore began engineering the largest privitization in US history- the previously untouchable Elk Hills oil reserves in California were auctioned off. And guess which company won the bidding war. None other than Occidental Petrolium. Coincidentally, since he is the executor of his father's estate, Gore controls up to $1 million in Occidential stock."

Now, I don't know what Occidential's exact benefit was to 911, but if it has any connection to Halliburten and all those other oil company's that are benefitting, it tells me the powers-that-be (which go higher up than the president) wanted this to happen and would have stopped at nothing to get this ball rolling. Al Gore has ties to oil companies, even though he has a more environmentally-friendly persona than Bush does, which leads me to believe 911 would probably have happened anyway.
