Fuel gage on my Grand Am stops working.
Edited on Thu May-20-04 04:54 PM by oneighty
Sigh. Read on DU the other day about fuel gage problems. Lady at the only station I buy gas says it is happening often (People mention it to her) I am in Western NY State. The problem is reported also in North East Pa, very close to here. Any suggestions?

Whoops I mean North West Pa.(ERIE Pa.) I have it confused with a village located there "North East' Pa. Very confusing.

5. Ethanol
She mentioned ethanol. But she does not know. Gasoline 2.10 dollars/gallon today. I will check with Pontiac dealer tomorrow. GM has a gage problem they are aware of, involving silver in the sensor. My car is leased I hope they fix it.

Analysis of the gas revealed a high amount of elemental sulphur. It corrodes the fuel gauge contacts and can also heat your fuel pump high enough to melt the solder on the electrical contacts.

The company here (Marathon-Ashland) admitted responsibility and is working with consumers to have the cars repaired.

7. I had to replace the fuel pump on my car as well..

And I drive a 94 Acura which shouldn't be needing a new fuel pump.

6. I Had a Peugeot 404 Once....
...and the gas gauge didn't work at all. So my father and I pulled the sending unit out of the gas tank, and discovered the float was cracked. It had filled with gasoline and sunk to the bottom of the tank.

So we replaced it with a champaign cork - rather appropriate for a French car.

:-)
