I am in desperate need to purchase one of these for the type work that I do 10 hours aday (lawn & landscape), so any advice on who owns what and recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

1. I have an iriver
I have an iriver and i love it.

I used www.epinions.com to select the player.

Spend the extra money on one with lots of space.

Consider buying one that is not a rechargable battery but one that requires standard batteries--that way you can change batteries easily.

Don't get an Ipod--the batteries cannot be replaced (well not easily).

3. I've got an iriver IHP-120

It's a 20 gig hard drive player with built in fm tuner and the ability to play mp3, wma, and ogg files. It's a pretty nice piece of hardware, the firmware has a few issues, not really problems, just features that really should be included, but aren't yet. The most glaring of these deficiencies are going to be fixed in the next firmware release or two though...

The biggest of these features that aren't included are 1: a truely random shuffle mode, and 2: the ability to create on the fly playlists away from the computer.

Other than these issues, it really is a nice player, and I would certainly recommend it. There is more info about it, as well as discussion groups about it and irivers other players at www.iriver.com

5. It will be, once they get it working...
Edited on Fri May-21-04 06:15 PM by Siflnolly
But now I've just got my music organized into directories by artist and album, so it's trivial to find anything I want, and I usually just either listen to a whole album or skip around anyway, so not having the feature yet doesn't bother me too much.

The non-random shuffle it currently has is a bit annoying, though there are ways to force it to re-seed the 'randomness', it's just kind of irritating for now.

The other nice feature about it is that any computer out there will just recognize it as a standard USB hard drive, no need to install any special software on the computer you hook it up to.

6. my 2 cents
I've got an ipod that i bought on ebay for 100 bucks. it's an older one, only 5GB, but i use it every day, and i swear by it. i don't need to have my entire collection on it so 5GB is fine. although it sure would be nice to have more space.

it is the easiest thing to use, particularly one-handedly. of course, i like to by apple equipment (i use a mac) because i just love 'em. plus, they're run by a liberal, Kerry supporting CEO...

i disagree on the battery thing, because i hate always buying batteries (they ain't cheap these days... seems like i'm always buying batteries for other devices) and i just plug it into my computer and it takes no time at all to charge up. i've never had the need to replace the battery, so it's great for me. but then, again, i love rechargeable devices (black and decker, etc...)

7. Love my ipod!
I love my IPOD. Works perfectly..I love ITunes and it goes everywhere with me. I have the one that holds 10,000 songs. Have had it a year and no battery problems but I am careful with it. I turn it off when not using it. The sound quality is great. I did buy another set of ear buds that I like better.

I've lost 10 pounds and I give the IPOD credit because walking is not a chore and I look forward to exercise.

8. Welcome to DU!
I love my iPod too. Another great thing about it is, with a $15 cassette adaptor, you can have a jukebox for your car.
