It's a beautiful morning. I brought my dog out, examined the fantastic stone wall my 17-year old is building for me, and am now having a cup of coffee. Life is good!

How does one get a 17 year old to do this? Mine is 14, and he complains when asked to lick a stamp.

He would build a stone wall for me if a judge ordered it as a condition of his probation. Just kidding, he's a great kid and doesn't complain all that much, especially when his mother's voice has the "I can't take any shit right now; I need some help and I'm serious" tone.

6. His new girlfriend

is a waitress. He needs $$$ to have a meal where she works. I'll be darned if I'd pay for him to eat there four evenings a week, when there's plenty of food here. But I have noted a willingness to tackle bigger jobs now that he is enjoying this young lady's company.
