I think the postere were there to grant some legitimacy to the occasion, but these people were all known and their images had already been posted on the FBI website, so to me, it was more like a prop than any real enlightenment.

And basically he was saying that the terrorists want to attack us. Well yeah -- that's what terrorists do. So this seemed to me to be more of an effort to put a halt -- temporarily at least -- to the "drumbeat" that's REALLY disturbing to Bush, namely the ongoing stories about how bad a job he's doing at running the country and especially the war.

The reporter on MSNBC just now remarked, in response to a question about why the conference was held, that all of this had been "out there" for weeks or months. Bush's speech was a disaster, so they had to do SOMETHING to get some good news in the media, or at least something that looks like the administration isn't just f'ing up everything.
