1. I went with "Raging Bull" -
but probably would have voted for "The King Of Comedy" too.

3. Ack...
I think his best acting job was "Raging Bull". But, I think the best movie on that list (in total) is Godfather II.

5. He's TERRIBLE in 'Men of Honor.'
Bob is a great actor, but he does a lousy southern accent. See 'Cape Fear' for reference.

6. I chose Goodfellas but
Edited on Thu Aug-21-03 02:05 PM by RationalRose
I only because I like that movie better than Taxi Driver or Raging Bull. I think his performances in the latter may have been better because he had more screen time vs. in Goodfellas he was part of an ensemble cast.

On edit, The Godfather II was amazing-he learned Italian for the role.

8. Heat
flame away, but I loved that movie, and I don't like mafia movies.

He was great in Wag the Dog too. :-)

9. I liked that movie too
I liked probaly about 7 other De Niro movies. But I didn't think Heat was one of the best movies he was in, he did excellent in the film though acting wise.

11. Ok, I admit it's sacrilege...
And I voted for "Taxi Driver"...but I've quite enjoyed the comic turns in "Meet the Parents" and "Analyze This"

It's exceedingly difficult to do comedy with an otherwise phenomenal serious actor, but when De Niro or Jack Nicholson do comedy well - I thoroughly enjoy it.

12. Anaylyze this 1 and 2
were one of the funniest films I ever seen. Meet the Parents was good too. I also liked Midnight Run, I noticed it was one of the choices but disappeared.

that is one of my all time favorite movies. Scorcese really captures a bygone era and neighborhood.

not much seen when released but now considered a cult classic. DeNiro and Jerry Lewis and Sandra Bernhard are superb.

29. That's a really tough question to answer.
He's had so many great performances AND he's been in so many great films, particularly the Scorsece films. "Goodfellas" is my favorite movie, but he was so good in "Taxi Driver" and "Raging Bull" and...can I vote for all of them? :-)

Taxi Driver is disturbing as hell, but I couldn't stop myself from voting for it.

did so because you've never seen Raging Bull.

He was great in Raging Bull, as he was in all the rest of them, but Goodfellas is my all-time favorite movie. But you might be right: a lot of the younger folks here may not have seen it.

His portrayal of the character reminded me of just most of these Goodfella types really are in life. Fucking hapless, tragic dorks.
