The credit card as ID
I'm tired of being asked to hand over a credit card when cashing checks at banks where I'm not an account holder. They already get my drivers license and my thumbprint...what the hell is my credit card going to add to that?

Several years ago, there was a law passed that forbade requiring credit cards as ID to complete transactions. When I've complained about this practice, I've been told that since they aren't writing the number of the card down, it's legal. I think it's just another method of punishing non-account holders. Furthermore, the fact that they say they aren't writing the number down doesn't convince me that they aren't.

I'm considering asking for tellers' drivers licenses when they view my credit card, to insure that my number is not stolen. Is this unreasonable?

2. I get asked for a credit card as ID when I go to some clubs...

You need an ID and a credit card to get into some of these clubs...retarded...what's next? Written contrat declaring that you will buy at least 3 skanks a drink?

I didn't have a credit card until well into my 20s...

3. Sometimes
it's just for a second form of ID, something with your name on it. If you have something else, like a school ID or something, ask if that is acceptable.

4. For many of us,
there is nothing acceptable beyond drivers license/credit card. I've tried offering my library card, and they won't accept it.

It seems to me that, since fraud-deterence is the purported reason for requiring a credit card, there should be a computerized database of our signatures and thumbprints available to financial institutions worldwide.
