I just got laid off! Ask me anything!
Edited on Sun Jun-20-04 04:43 PM by JonathanChance
For the last week, I have been working as a store opener preparing a a new Family Dollar in Crivitz, WI for its grand opening on Thursday. Today, I went to work, and was told at lunchtime to go on home and to take the rest of the day off. I was also told to call after 4:00 PM to learn what time I was supposed to come in tommorow. I called to get my hours, and was told that we were so far ahead of schedule, that they didn't need me anymore on this project, he thanked me for my hard work and told me that another store was going to open in my area and that they will be needing openers. :grr:  Even though I knew this job was temporary when I signed on the dotted line, I was expecting to work until at least Wednesday! I have been screwed out of 3 1/2 days pay! I was counting on this job to earn money for a new computer, bobdammit! I figure with my estimated earnings after taxes and the money I got for graduation that I'll have about 500 bucks.

Dammit, I'm pissed!

1. George W. Bush says there are lots of jobs
You can tell us if that's true.

2. Yeah, $6.50/hr retail jobs.
Yeah, that'll be great for the factory worker who used to make $45k/year. :eyes:

3. Well hey! You may have "grown the economy" twice!
The temporary job made you a happily employed person instead of unemployed, and since you worked yourself out of a job early by giving it your best, "productivity" got a shot in the arm. Little vignettes like yours make the market go up and everyone wins! NOT!!
We're freaking serfs and wage-slaves...and I hate capitalism. :grr:
Sorry, JC...hang in there.

5. Join the club....................
I haven't worked in 6 mos. Of all the apps and resumes I've mailed, I have only had one response saying that they'd filled the position. The rest haven't given me even that much consideration. Oh yeah, did I mention that my unemployment benefits run out in a month?

Sorry, trying to commiserate here, but it ended up as a rant.

Good luck, JC.
