Is Spider man 2 appropriate for a 5 year old?

My first thought would be no since its rated pg-13. I'm with my son today and want to see it. I guess I will have to wait another day.

1. Goto their movie web site

When they rate a movie, they'll usually give a list of what was in the movie to give it the rating: brief nudity, swearing, etc.

Check that and then make the call.

2. Honestly....

I think that the movie is not really overly violent and isn't filled with that many expletives (then again, I'm not a parent, so I wasn't really paying close attention).

....however, there's not as much action as you may think and your son would probably be bored silly.

3. Yeah probably. It's not anything worse than what they could see on

cartoons on Saturday Mornings and weekday afternoons, except it's live action.

Probably the scariest things in the whole movie are:

Doctor Octopus awaking and beating up(or worse, as you don't know how bad they get hurt" a bunch of doctors who are about to operate on him to remove his "tentacles". He basically grabs them(with huge mechanical tenticals) and throws them around the room and obviously really messes them up. It might be a little scary for a little girl, but little boys will probably love it.

Also, there's a scene in which Spidey has to stop a dissconnected train from going off course and basically killing a whole train car of passengers. The ordeal forces spidey to use his(superhumanly durable) body to slow the train, first by attempting to use himself as a break and then by making himself the center of a human bungee cord by shooting webbing on both sides of him and putting tremendous strain on himself by stretching his arms and torso almost to the breaking point trying to stop the train. The ordeal knocks spidey unconcious for a bit and it might be really sad for a little kid but it's over quickly.

I'm racking my brain and those are the only 2 scenes I could think of that might cause any kid to freak out, and that's really a stretch. There's no sex-stuff or anything close, there's no swearing that I remember. There is a scene where Harry Osborne(Peters best friend) hoveres over a tied up spiderman with a knife and the intention of killing him to avenge his father, but that's as far as it goes.

I'd say it's ok as long as the kid isnt' really sheltered or something.

4. I don't think that Spider-Man 1 is appropriate for a 5-year-old

Because I saw it with some friends, and one of them brought her five-year-old daughter, and there was one scene with Osborn (the Green Goblin) where there's a quick flash of light, a quick flash of Osborn's face all insane looking, quick flash of light, and back to confused looking Osborn (dealing with his Goblin-schizophrenia) that scared the hell out of her.

5. it depends on the 5 year old. . .

my son's father was prone to expose him that stuff I didn't really feel was appropriate, but more due to stupid plots and bad writing . . .but he never has had irrational fears or nightmares.

The scenes that were the scariest for me were when Dr. Octavius' experiment goes wrong, the fight scenes were pretty intense, and the subway scene.

You know your kid and if you feel he doesn't have a problem differentiating between reality and fantasy and isn't prone to irrational fears or nightmares, it might be okay. No way to really say for sure as you know best what he's already been exposed to and how he processed it.

6. It's not appropriate

I love the movie but there's a scene of a massacre in a hospital that I wouldn't want a 5 year old to see.

7. It's not a "massacre". There's no blood. And you don't even know if

anyone dies. There are scary sounds maybe for a little kid, but it litterally goes on for 45 seconds maybe

8. Sorry, looked like a massacre to me

Yeah, there wasn't any blood but it sure looked like everyone died (and they're not the only ones in the movie who die). One guy was electrocuted. Several others were hit hard and went limp. One woman is dragged acrosss the floor while clawing at it hard enough to rip up linoleum with her fingernails. A man fights for his life with a chainsaw ... and loses. The Doc Ock arms are scary, reminiscent in their movements of the alien from Aliens (and the plant from Little Shop of Horrors). I'm a huge fan of this movie. Absolutely love it. But it's not for a five year old.

I thought it would scare the shit outta me when I was 7 or 8. There is a lot of violence but I guess it's up to what the kid is like.

I don't know what you allow your child to watch but there was hardly any bad language, no sex or nudity and even in the action scenes there is no blood.


There is however, some scary parts when Dr. Oct becomes a monster.

There were many little kids when I saw it and there wasn't any screaming or crying if that matters for anything.
