The move is finished
With the help of four friends at various times (and I'll mention their names: Gayle, Maureen, Pete and Erik), I finally finished moving out of the house my wife and I lived in the last five years of her life. It took fifteen days, in between working, packing, securing 2 storage facilities, and dismantling/moving her office.

I'm sweaty, hot , exhausted, sore, and now living in a tiny house of my own stacked to the ceiling with boxes, crammed with hastily assembled bits of our life together - bathroom and computer stuff together, books and spoons, collection notices against her credit cards and crystal teddy bears from the Czech Republic.

Getting On With It begins in earnest tomorrow, and continues...well, the rest of my life.

Before I drove away this evening, I took pictures of the orange gladiolas Karin planted in the front garden, that just bloomed today, framed against a pink sunset over the Rocky Mountains she and I loved together so much.

I still can't say goodbye to her - but I said goodbye to the house we lived in together, and that was hard enough.

1. A very sweet post. And good for you to move out of the memories.
You will keep the best ones with you, I'm sure.

2. such a beautiful post.
It's impossible to find complete closure, when loved ones leave us. However, you are so strong to find the courage to begin a new time in your life.

4. Thanks
But please don't commend me for the courage to move on, or any strength to face my future.

My landlady gave us notice midway through Karin's month-long illness that she needed to move us out - it was entirely involuntary.

5. We love ya BBB.
What a loving tribute.

I can't imagine your pain and grief.

But remember the memories and remember that for what ever it means, with your DU family .... you've got a friend.

6. I remember that about the landlady.
She just has to be a repub.

I hope you will be as happy as possible in your new residence. That is really something special about the gladiolas blooming today.

BTW, I don't think I heard anything further about the white water trip. How did that go?
