Could NBC please lay off the Women's Beach Volleyball!!!
Its on all the time. This T and A show masquerading as an event. OK, so it is a legitimate sport but must they dress like that? They wear less than the swimmers or divers. On Saturday the camera actually zoomed in on one players butt. I just think its inappropriate.

1. Try watching the Olympics with your parents when that comes on.
I want to see track and field stuff and boxing, not some girl's butt. That's what HBO is for.

3. That's right - Sex should not be a spectator sport -
It should be only a participation sport.

4. good question.. instead
they are dressed in a t-shirt and shorts. I think that would actually be more comfortable instead of getting sand everywhere when you dive.

7. This whole thread is worth a laugh
Their apparel is offensive? Shit, did I log onto the wrong message board? Puhleeeeeze. Their outfits are utilitarian. Any notion otherwise comes from your own mind. Rather puritanical if you ask me.

10. The athletes choose their own garb.
I don't remember which team it was, but one of them a couple days back was wearing shorts instead of the string bikini. I believe that the competitors in this sport get to design their own uniforms, just like every other sport, so these people are wearing these because they're comfortable in it.

It makes sense if you think about it. Beach volleyball is a sport that was invented and is still practiced primarily on beaches. People on beaches tend to wear beachwear, which today sypically means bikini's for young athletic women, and skimpy shorts for young athletic men. Since that's what they're used to, asking them to put on anything else would throw them...it would be like asking a swimmer to do a 100m butterfly while wearing sweatpants.

Now, whether beach volleyball should even BE an Olympic sport is another discussion entirely. I tend to rank it right up there with frisbee throwing, wakesurfing, and kite flying as far as "sports" go. We already had Olympic volleyball, so how exactly does the addition of SAND make this a new and unique sport? If I suggested running a 1000m marathon in sand, would it get the same reception? How about if we had the women wear G-Strings? ;)
